Focusing on mind, body and spirit

Acommunity rock painting event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Noel Dorwart Park, 408 Parklawn Court, Lancaster. The family event will begin at 3:30 p.m., and it will be open to the public and children of all ages.

Participants will meet at the picnic tables adjacent to the park’s parking lot. Rocks, paint brushes, paint and other supplies will be provided by donation. After participants decorate their rocks, they will be invited to walk through the park’s nature trail and place them along the route or take them home.

The event is being organized by AmandaWallace, founder of nonprofit Manifesting Tranquility Inc. Wallace created Manifesting Tranquility in May with the goal of helping women who suffer from physical illnesses or mental difficulties such as anxiety and depression. “I felt called to open a nonprofit to branch out into the community,” Wallace said. “I thought (this event) would be a great opportunity to bring people

together and get out into nature.”

Wallace’s approach to promote physical and mental health is to address an individual’s mind, body and spirit simultaneously. She decided to hold the rock painting event to allow people to benefit from an artistic outlet and physical exercise at the same time. Wallace also emphasized that being out in

to connect with their surroundings as they strolled through nature. Although Manifesting Tranquility is still in its developing stage as a new nonprofit, Wallace has plans for future events at other locations.

nature provides a plethora of benefits, such as getting a boost of vitamin D and serotonin. “When we’re dealing with mental health, it’s not just your brain,” Wallace said. “It’s the whole body and spirit. Nourishing them helps with these issues.”

In June, she organized Manifesting Tranquility’s first event: a mindfulness walk at Noel Dorwart Park, where participants were encouraged

Worship event will encourage unity

The fifth annual Reverberate worship night will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17, at Long’s Park, 1441 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. The free event will be held at the park’s outdoor amphitheater from 4 to 8 p.m., and it will feature live music, food trucks and worship activities from multiple local churches.

Multiple food trucks will be stationed beside the amphitheater, including Lickity Split, Chellas Arepa Kitchen, Blazing Swine BBQ,

Cabalar, Halo’s Eatery and Walk-O Taco. Throughout the evening, bands will provide praise and worship music on the stage, and churches such as Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, Reality Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church and Bright Side Baptist Church will offer worship activities.

Water Street Mission, located in downtown Lancaster, partnered with multiple churches in Lancaster County to create Reverberate in 2019. The nonprofit’s primary goal was to promote service to the church, which is one of its core values. The first event See Reverberate pg 3

Manifesting Tranquility will use the donations collected at the rock painting event for scholarships for women’s athletics programs. The nonprofit will offer scholarships specifically for activities that align with its goal to promote harmony between mental and physical health. Wallace plans to offer financial assistance to allow women to participate in yoga and dance classes and train in martial arts. Wallace also hopes to offer online courses through Manifesting Tranquility in the future. “We want to offer events for women in the community to nourish themselves socially as well as spiritually,” Wallace said. “This can be anything from group walks, meditation classes, and everything in between.”

At each table, participants will have a chance to speak with leaders of local troops and to learn about what being a Girl Scout entails. One of Girl Scouting’s main focuses is completing challenges to earn badges, which often require mastering a specific skill or finishing a difficult task. In addition to obtaining badges, members of the Conestoga River Girl Scouts work together to complete a community service project each year. This year, the Scouts will collect items to donate to the Pet Pantry of Lancaster County.

“As Girl Scouts, girls discover who they are, where their talents lie and what they care about,” said Linda

Davis has decades of experience working with Girl Scouts, first becoming a Scout nearly 60 years ago. She credits her years in the program with giving her an arsenal of skills that have continued to serve her throughout her life. Although Davis learned many hands-on skills, such as setting up a tent and building a fire, she said becoming a Girl Scout also helped prepare her for adulthood. Davis acquired keen leadership skills and the ability to forge strong friendships during her time as a Scout; she decided to remain active in the program after achieving the final rank. “It did so much for me growing up that I became a troop leader when I was 22 years old, and I’ve been in it ever since,” Davis said.

Girl Scouts is always seeking volunteers in addition to new Scouts. For more information, visit www.gshpa.org.

was attended by more than 1,400 people from a variety of churches and denominations. In 2020, Reverberate was moved to a virtual platform due to the COVID19 pandemic, but it was transitioned to Long’s Park in 2021 and has been held there since. Water Street Mission has partnered with 77 churches for this year’s event, and it anticipates more than 2,000 attendees.

“We’re super excited to bring together a lot of diverse congregations to allow the community to unite for a night,” said Matthew Clements, marketing director of Water Street Mission. “Our end goal is that people are inspired to go out and love their neighbors.”

Water Street Mission is a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to people in need throughout Lancaster County. Water Street Mission is centered around Christian values, and it incorporates Scripture into its many community outreach efforts, such as residential programs, a community food bank,

career mentoring and counseling services. The organization also operates a health clinic that provides medical, dental and behavioral health services for people who are in need of critical care but unable to acquire it otherwise. Services are offered to those who are uninsured, underinsured or experiencing homelessness. Water Street Mission’s emergency shelter program is designed to assist people who are in need of a stable living situation or who are navigating a crisis.
