Children, Teens Invited To Join Choirs

Grace Community Church (GCC) of Willow Street, 212 Peach Bottom Road, has announced choirs for children and teens. The program will be offered on Thursdays from Sept. 29 to Nov. 17, with children in kindergarten through fifth grade meeting for Outpour Kids from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and students in grades six through eight meeting for Outpour Teens from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.

Outpour Kids is GCC’s children’s community worship choir, which offers students opportunities to use music to serve others and draw them closer to Jesus. This fall, the Outpour Community Choir will expand its program to provide choir opportunities to older students through Outpour Teens.

At the conclusion of the eight-week session, the worship choirs will present a joint concert free to community members at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18.

Katie Wieand serves as the Outpour Kids and Outpour Teens director and the children’s music ministry coordinator at GCC. She aims to invest in the talents God has entrusted to each of His children in such a way that they develop into skill, which God will ultimately use for His glory. Wieand has a Master of Music in opera performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from Belmont University. She has been the owner of and instructor at Wieand Vocal Studio since 2004. Wieand is married to Matt, a science teacher at Martin Meylin Middle School, and they have three children.

Recovery Day Lancaster, an annual family-friendly festival that celebrates recovery from addiction, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Buchanan Park, Race and Buchanan avenues, Lancaster. The day will include a variety of activities - the Walk for Recovery, children’s games and crafts, music, holistic health demonstrations, inspirational speakers, and Lancaster County’s largest Unity Circle - along with the second annual 5K Run for Recovery, a vegan meal lunch option, and the involvement of Lancaster County’s special courts for veterans and addiction treatment.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony and the traditional Unity Circle, followed by the 5K Run for Recovery, which will start at the Buchanan Park side of Franklin & Marshall College campus. A Walk for Recovery, with a shorter route, will begin at the same time.

The Lancaster County Recovery Alliance organizes the day in cooperation with the 521 Club, a Lancaster sober club. The 521 Club coordinates the event’s Recovery Rocks! Concert, where Octavia Blues Band, known for its blues rock and roll style, will be the featured attraction.

Visitors may stroll the park until 2 p.m. to visit information tables to learn about local and regional resources for addiction recovery, including support groups, treatment options, family supports, and holistic health modalities like acupuncture, therapeutic movement, massage, and yoga. Children’s games and other interactive activities will also be available.

Lunch tickets are available for purchase for an all-youcan-eat barbecue prepared by Bellys BBQ and Burritos with fixings or a boxed vegan lunch. Children under age 7 may eat for free.

Participants are welcome to bring their own picnic lunch if they wish, as well as blankets, chairs, and lawn games. This is a dog-friendly event, so dogs are also welcome.

Girls on the Run (GOTR) will host Kickin’ Up Kindness at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at Landis Valley Farm, Landis Valley Road off Oregon Pike/Route 272, Lancaster. The barn party will feature dinner, a silent auction, live music, and more.
