Grave Concern Posts Meeting
Grave Concern will hold a quarterly public meeting and program on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Lancaster County Mennonite Information Center, located next to the historical society at 2209 Millstream Road (Route 30 East), Lancaster.
“Using DNA to Trace Family History” will be presented by Darvin L. Martin, who has been studying DNA in regard to family history since 2008. Martin will explain how DNA can help expand one’s family history beyond the standard paper trail of census lists, deeds, wills, tax records, and cemetery records. DNA analysis, used in combination with all the other research tools available for family history, can provide the means to verify and enhance the story of one’s ancestors.
Admission will be free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Face masks and social distancing are encouraged.
Grave Concern is an organization dedicated to the history, preservation and restoration of historical burial places. For more information, readers may call 717-393-9745.
An upcoming art exhibit will feature the work of refugee students from the School District of Lancaster. The exhibit, “Through My Eyes,” will be open to the public at Hub 450, located at 450 N. Prince St., Lancaster, on Friday, Sept. 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The event will be hosted by the Lancaster Family YMCA in partnership with the YMCA of York and York County as part of Welcoming Week, a week celebrating the contributions of immigrants.
