Dinner will include Parmesan chicken, hamloaf, raspberry vinaigrette salad, potatoes, corn and green beans, plus pies and cakes.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Kari Tavella. The wife of “America’s Got Talent” winner Dustin Tavella, Kari had a successful career in the entertainment industry as a model and actress before drugs and alcohol took over. In a time of desperate need, she turned to Jesus. “She has a really cool story of coming from a bad situation, hitting rock bottom and how God completely transformed her life,” Paden stated. “We felt like that really resonates with what some of our students who come to REYS are experiencing. We want REYS to be a place where they can flourish, where they can hear about the transformative power of Jesus.”
Tickets to the banquet are free. Funds are raised for REYS through sponsorships and donations. “We are still looking for sponsors, and we will collect a freewill offering at the event,” Paden remarked. “Money raised will help support the operating expenses of the youth center, our afterschool programs, our music programs and martial arts programs. It takes money to offer all of these things for free to our families.”
REYS offers programs for students in grades one through 12, serving Mount Joy and the surrounding areas. The banquet will also feature a video presentation, sharing the stories of some of the people who have been impacted by REYS throughout the years.
Reservations are required for the banquet, and the reservation deadline is Monday, March 7. For tickets and more information, visit https://reys.org/events.

Ephrata National Bank (ENB) is accepting submissions for its “Lights, Camera, Save!” video contest, which is organized by the American Bankers Association Foundation. This national competition encourages teens to use video to communicate the value of sound money management and to set their peers on a sound financial path.
“Lights, Camera, Save!” gives local students an opportunity to harness their creativity, learn about using money wisely and communicate those lessons with their peers. ENB believes that a strong financial education is critical to a successful future and the contest reinforces that message.
To participate, students ages 13 to 18 must create a video lasting 30 seconds or less and focused on using money wisely. Students must provide the bank with a link to their video and a completed entry form by Thursday, March 31. The contest is open to filmmakers of all experience levels.
ENB will host the first round of judging and select a winner to compete on the national level for one of three cash prizes. Additionally, the first-place winner will receive a local grand prize from ENB. National contestants will face off head-to-head in the first round of national judging on the American Bankers Association’s Instagram page at www.instagram.com/americanbankersassociation, which will determine which videos advance to the second round of national judging.
Videos will be judged on their quality, message and content and the criteria set forth by the contest’s official rules. To learn more about the “Lights, Camera, Save!” contest, visit www.lightscamerasave.com or www.epnb.com/lightscamerasave.

In October of 2021, Risa Paskoff, executive director of Aaron’s Acres, was informed that the Manheim Community Pool, where Aaron’s Acres has held its summer camp, would not reopen in the spring. “In 30 days, we researched about 30 community pools,” said Paskoff. “Our team was amazing. We had to find a place.”
When a relative of a board member suggested the New Holland Community Pool and Park, in the 400 block of Jackson Street, New Holland, Aaron’s Acres staff members reached out to set up a meeting before Thanksgiving 2021. “(New Holland representatives) were more than accommodating,” said Paskoff. “We needed an indoor facility if the weather was bad. We needed accessible bathrooms. They had everything.” Paskoff noted she specifically worked with pool manager Leo Ward, office manager Paula Walsh, and borough manager Dick Fulcher. “The pool will be open for us until noon so we can have the pool to ourselves (in the mornings),” said Paskoff, who added that New Holland representatives have been welcoming and supportive, and she is excited about using the park.
For more than 20 years, Aaron’s Acres has provided socialization and recreation for children and young adults with special needs ages 5 to 21. The nonprofit organization held camp at the Jewish Community Center in Lancaster until 2013. Starting in 2014, the program was hosted by the Manheim Community Pool and Memorial Park. In 2019, more than 200 took part in camp. During 2020, Aaron’s Acres held virtual camp for 50 campers. In 2021, in-person camp was held, and the organization served 30 campers per two-week session. In 2022, camps will be held on weekdays from Monday, June 20, to Friday, July 1; Monday, July 11, to Friday, July 22; and Monday, July 25, to Friday, Aug. 5.
For several years now, Aaron’s Acres has been seeking a home of its own in the northern part of the county. On Paskoff’s wish list is housing for therapy alpacas, along with sheep, goats, and chickens. A property with space to grow herbs, vegetables, and flowers would give the organization the opportunity to expand the Aaron’s Acres Plus program, which began offering activities for 22- to 30-yearolds in early 2019. Among the activities planned for adult clients are farming, working with the animals, and taking part in Aaron’s Acres Acts of Kindness Program (Triple AOK), which allows participants with developmental disabilities to give back to others. Paskoff also hopes Aaron’s Acres can open a café to be manned by participants. “We are hoping to kick off a capital campaign in 2022,” said Paskoff, who noted the organization is looking for an existing building to renovate to meet its needs.
More information about Aaron’s Acres may be found at www.aaronsacres.org.
Elaine Burnett (left), program director with Aaron’s Acres; Paula Walsh (center), New Holland Borough office manager; and Leo Ward, New Holland Pool manager, are all looking forward to Aaron’s Acres summer camps being held in New Holland.
