The fourth annual ODC Food Truck Fest will take place on Saturday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at Stauffer Park, 1241 Lititz Pike, Lancaster.

The event will feature a variety of food choices, music, and more. Vendors will offer hot chicken sandwiches, ice cream, barbecue, beverages, cupcakes, kettle corn, seafood, and other food items.

The public is invited to attend. Proceeds will benefit the Occupational Development Center (ODC) and Manheim Township Recreation Department.

Barbershop Singers Honored At Competition

Vocal Harmonix

Vocal Harmonix, the Lancaster Chapter of Sweet Adelines (SA) International, attended the Atlantic BayMountain Region 19 competition, which was held at the Marriott Conference Center in Lancaster from April 28 to May 1. This is a yearly competition among groups from a region that spans five surrounding states. Choruses gather, perform, and are adjudicated in their craft of female singing in the barbershop style. Vocal Harmonix won first place in the Small Chorus category and third place overall for the weekend.

Vocal Harmonix, a women’s a cappella show chorus providing musical, educational and leadership opportunities, has performed for audiences locally and throughout the world. Local venues have included Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre and the Ware Center, and Vocal Harmonix has also sung the national anthem at a Lancaster Barnstormers game. Although based in Lancaster, Vocal Harmonix draws members from Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin and York counties, as well as Hagerstown, Md.

As a part of the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival, the Lancaster Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) will host a recital at Historic St. Mary’s Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, on Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m. Local organists will play the Hall organ, which was built in 1925.

Doug Wimer, resident of the Buch Organ Company in Ephrata, will perform Olivier Messiaen’s “Dieu parmi nous.” The program will also feature T. Tertius Noble’s “Legend,” written in 1944 and dedicated to the founder of the Lancaster AGO chapter, the late Frank McConnell, longtime organist of St. James Episcopal Church. Other performers will include Dr. Ross Ellison, John Zielinski, Deborah Berdos, the Rev. Mark Herr, Christopher Prestia, and Margaret Marsch.

A freewill offering will be received to support scholarships presented by AGO to young people so they may obtain organ lessons. One scholarship winner, Kyle Bainhauer, will perform J.S. Bach’s Fugue in G minor during the upcoming program.
