On Oct. 22, Kraybill Mennonite School, 598 Kraybill Church Road, Mount Joy, held its 20th annual Race for Education. The event raised $48,861 for the school’s operating fund. “This year, we made some changes to the day to follow protocols for COVID-19,” said Holly Ford, manager of school operations. “In spite of those changes, the race was very successful.” For the fundraiser, families provide names and addresses

Celebrate Recovery recently began meeting at Manheim Brethren in Christ (BIC) Church. “When people hear ‘recovery,’ they may think of drugs or alcohol,” said Marlane Hall, who leads the ministry with Darren Sweigart. “Celebrate Recovery is for any hurt, habit or hang-up. It’s for anybody who is struggling with anything, from mental illness to anxiety, depression, grief, porn addiction, food issues, co-dependency. This is a place where you can come and find support and learn tools to help you navigate through your life.” Sweigart said Celebrate Recovery is similar to other recovery programs in some ways. “Our higher power is Jesus. We meet together to find freedom through Him,” he explained. “It’s a 12-Step program like Alcoholics Anonymous, but we also have eight Recovery Principles that we focus on.”

Hall has been a member of Celebrate Recovery for 11 years. Sweigart has been involved for about three and a half years. “I tell people that coming to a meeting is like coming to church,” Hall stated. “We start in a large group, and we open with worship music. We sing, we read the 12 Steps or the eight Principles and we offer a Marlane Hall and Darren Sweigart invite anyone Christ-centered biblical pro- who is struggling with a hurt, habit or hang-up to gram.
