Birdsboro To Celebrate 150th Anniversary BY FRANCINE FULTON
irdsboro is having a giant party on Saturday, July 2, to celebrate the borough’s incorporation 150 years ago. Activities, which will include music, food and events for children, will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. at Main Bird Park, located at 226 N. Water St., Birdsboro. The Birdsboro Farmers Market will also be open in the park prior to the celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Birdsboro was founded in 1740, but it was incorporated in 1872,” explained Christen Thompson, a member of the Birdsboro Parks and Recreation Department. “Borough Council asked Parks and Rec to throw a celebration.” A highlight of the day will be live music. Old Fangled will perform from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by singer Stephanie Grace from 6 to 9 p.m.
roast at the park. “There will be at least six food trucks,” said Thompson, noting that the trucks will include Pip and Lily’s Loaded Tots and Sammy’s Steaks and French Fries. Also for sale will be ice cream and Betty’s Old-Fashioned lemonade. A dunk tank will also be featured. “We are going to dunk (Birdsboro Borough) Council members,” Thompson noted. The day will conclude with a fireworks show at 9 p.m. Since space is limited, parking will be available at Daniel Boone High School, 501 Chestnut St., Birdsboro. “Everything will be at Main Bird Park. There will be a shuttle from the high school,” Thompson added. For more information about the anniversary celebration, search for “Birdsboro Parks and Recreation” on Facebook.

Nicole DeWald of Birdsboro, a 2022 graduate of Daniel Boone High School, recently participated in the Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen pageant held during the 80th annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro. Nicole, who was named Miss Daniel Boone earlier this year, took part in a variety of events at the festival, which is named after the state flower. Nicole, the daughter of Pete and Kathleen DeWald, said that as a representative of Daniel Boone and Berks County, she traveled the farthest out of the 26 Laurel Queen candidates. “It took us about four hours to get there. It’s right near the New York border,” said Nicole, who was accompanied to the event by her parents and Miss Daniel Boone Nicole DeWald recently took part in the Pennsylvania grandparents.

The kickoff event also provided youths an opportunity to pick up their summer reading packet. Individuals who are not signed up can still register by picking up a reading log at the library’s circulation desk. There is one for teenagers and one for children up to age 12. As part of the program, participants are asked to fill in a space on their reading log for every 20 minutes they read. When they reach 300 minutes, they are asked to come into the library for a prize. In addition, for every reading log that is turned in, participants will receive a ticket for end-of-summer prizes. “If they come to an event, they (also) get a ticket,” explained children’s library director Pam Mohl. Those who complete their reading logs and read for 1,200 minutes will be placed into an additional drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card at the end of the Summer Reading Program on Wednesday, Aug. 3. In addition, Mohl is asking those who travel this summer to send a postcard from their destination to the library at P.O. Box 797, Morgantown, PA

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is the Commonwealth’s highest court and the oldest appellate court in the nation. The Judiciary Act of 1722 created the Supreme Court as a permanent body with authority over both appeals and trials, although its roots go back to the provincial court established in 1684. The court has full administrative authority over all aspects of Pennsylvania’s judicial system and may also hear cases involving issues of immediate public importance that arise in the commonwealth. Live music will be offered on Fireside Fridays.
Nicole applied to be a participant last November at the suggestion of her high school guidance counselor and was later chosen to represent her school. “ We have been to Wellsboro before and we really enjoyed it. W hen I saw that (the pageant) was posted, I looked into the Laurel Festival because I never heard of it,” she said. “It was beginning of senior year, and I was really excited, and I wanted to do everything.” “There is an application process,” she continued. “I had to answer three or four questions (in essay form) about why I was a good candidate and why I would be a good representative of my school.” Nicole was on the honor roll all four years of high school and was a member of the Connections Club, the National Honor Society and Key Club. She played basketball and was a sprinter on the track team. She is also a member of Girl Scout Troop 1007 in the Daniel Boone Service Unit. While in Wellsboro, Nicole and the other queen candi-
dates enjoyed a weekend of activities. They took part in a welcoming ceremony at the Tioga County Courthouse, followed by a picnic lunch and a visit to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. “It is a really big event, and there were a lot of people there. It is one of their major events in Wellsboro,” said Nicole. “They had concerts, vendors and a parade that we were in as candidates on a float. There
were a couple of thousand people lining the streets. The community really comes together.” While she did not win the title of Laurel Queen, Nicole said she enjoyed the experience. “I had a fun time, I enjoyed it and I’m really glad I did this,” she said. “I got to spent time with the other candidates and made a couple of friends.” This year’s queen winner was Miss Wellsboro Regan

Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) has earned the Arbor Day Foundation program’s 2021 Tree Campus Healthcare facility recognition for the third year in a row. The recognition means Coatesville VAMC has consistently made positive impacts on the wellness of the surrounding communities through tree education, investment, and community
engagement. Coatesville VAMC works to take care of green spaces to promote the health and rehabilitation of veterans and to contribute to local environmental efforts. Successfully completing each year’s facility tree care plan starts with the grounds crew team, which tends the 140-acre property throughout the year by pruning, planting, mowing, and raking the greenspaces. The team members compost the grass and leaves while they work to beautify the campus. The campus’s accomplishments are tracked and recorded by Beth Ramsey, Green Environmental Management Systems (GEMS) program manager at Coatesville VAMC. Among the practices developed at the Coatesville VAMC are conducting an inventory to identify trees and shrubs for removal and planting replacements, protecting trees from invasive plants and insects like the spotted

lanternfly, and partnering with community groups with common interests. The GEMS team is at work on this year’s tree care plan and is already looking ahead to next year’s
plans. For more information on the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus Healthcare program, visit www.treecampus healthcare.org.
The Coatesville VAMC’s 140-acre campus features trees and other vegetation.

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) advises Pennsylvania veterans and their advocates of scams to poach VA pensions. Pension poaching is financial exploitation targeting veterans and beneficiaries who are potentially eligible for VA pension benefits. Veteran pension poaching occurs when scammers, dishonest financial planners or others charge veterans or their beneficiaries for help in applying for or submitting applications for VA pensions. The scheme often involves financial maneuvers such as advising claimants to hide their assets in trusts or annuity products, sometimes resulting in lost investments and lucrative fees paid to the adviser. Veterans and their advocates should remember to never share their VA login information or deposit VA benefits directly into a thirdparty bank account unless the person is court-appointed or a VA accredited fiduciary. Veterans or their advocates should never pay for forms or to submit applications, to restructure assets in order to “qualify,” for the promise of eligibility for a pension, or to receive a lump sum payment on a pension. There are approximately 200 veteran service officers in Pennsylvania who work within organizations such as the DMVA, county VA offices, and several veterans service organizations. For a complete list of county directors and their contact information, visit www.dmva.pa.gov and click on Contact Your County Director. Veterans who have experienced or suspect a pension scam should contact 717-783-1944 or pavets@attorneygeneral.gov or submit a complaint online at www.attorneygeneral.gov.

Hopewell Furnace To Celebrate The Declaration Of Independence The National Park Service and the Friends of Hopewell Furnace invite the community to join in commemorating the 246th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on Monday, July 4. The annual formal commemoration ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. from the steps of Ironmaster’s Mansion. Other programming will be offered throughout the day and is free and open to the public. This year’s ceremony will include musical performances by Molly Herman and Amelia Shelgren of The Music Studio of Patricia Keith, the presenting of colors by Girl Scouts of the Daniel Boone Service Unit 763 and Boy Scouts of Pack and Troop 595 and the reading of
winning essay submissions from Celia Kerr and Abigail Smith of Owen J. Roberts High School and Danica Leister of Daniel Boone Area High School. The ceremony will conclude with the public being invited to take part in a reading of the Declaration of Independence. In addition to the ceremony, a variety of programming will be offered on-site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day, including orientation talks, interactive molding and casting demonstrations, modern and period Junior Ranger activities and blacksmithing demonstrations. Hopewell Furnace was established as a National Historic Site on Aug. 3, 1938, and preserves the late 18th- and
early 19th-century setting of an iron-making community, including the charcoal-fueled furnace and its natural and cultural resources. The community illustrates the role of industrialization in the growth of the early United States. The furnace was established in 1771 by ironmaster Mark Bird and operated as a furnace for the next 112 years. The park’s facilities are currently open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hopewell Furnace is located at 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson, about 5 miles south of Birdsboro, off Route 345. Admission to the park is free. For more information, call 610-582-8773 or visit www.nps.gov/hofu.

PA residents scramble to get State Silver Bank Rolls PENNSYLVANIA - Once Pennsylvania residents got wind that Pennsylvania State Bank Rolls filled with Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s were being handed over, there was a mad dash to get them. That’s because they are the only Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. “The phones will be ringing off the hook. That’s because everyone will be trying to get them while they still can,” according to officials at the National Mint and Treasury who say they can barely keep up with all the orders. In fact, they had to impose a strict limit of 4 Pennsylvania
State Bank Rolls. So, if you get the chance to get your hands on these State Bank Rolls you better hurry because hundreds of Pennsylvania residents already have and you don’t want to miss out. You see, the U.S. Gov’t stopped minting these Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars in 1947 and there can never be any more which moves them into the collectible coin status. And here’s the best part. The rolls are unsearched so there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value. That’s why the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walk-
ing Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Roll is a deal too good to pass up. But you better hurry because these Pennsylvania State Bank Rolls themselves have been marked State Restricted by price which means the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury is restricted to Pennsylvania residents and non-state residents must pay full price if any remain. That’s because they make amazing gifts for children, grandchildren and loved ones. Just imagine the look on their face when you hand them one of the State Bank Rolls — they’ll tell everyone they know what you did for them.
Q GOT ‘EM: These are the only Walking Liberty Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. Each Bank Roll is loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars some dating back to the early 1900’s so everyone who wants them better hurry.
Only State Restricted Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls go to Pennsylvania residents Pennsylvania residents get first dibs on Sealed Bank Rolls loaded with U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties dating back to the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value starting at 7:30 am today and Treasury,” Lynne explained. “Now that the State of Pennsylvania Sealed Bank Rolls are being offered up we won’t be surprised if thousands of Pennsylvania residents claim the maximum limit allowed of 4 Bank Rolls per resident while they still can,” said Lynne. “That’s because after the Bank Rolls were loaded with 15 U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties, each verified to meet a minimum collector grade of very good or above, the dates and mint marks of the Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars found inside the Bank Rolls have never been searched. But, we do know that some of these coins date clear back to the early 1900’s and are 90% pure silver so Pennsylvania residents who get their hands on them will be glad they did,” Lynne went on to say. And here’s the best part. If you are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania you cover only the $39 per coin state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury, that’s 15 U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars worth up to 100 times their face value for just $585 which is a real steal because state residents who miss the deadline and non state residents must pay $118 per coin which totals $1,770 if any coins remain after the 2-day deadline. “U.S. Gov’t issued coins like these are 90% pure silver and a favorite of dealers, collectors and the like,” Lynne said. “We know the phones will be ringing off the hook. So the only thing readers need to do is make sure they are a resident of the state of Pennsylvania and call the State Toll-Free Hotlines printed in today’s publication,” Lynne said. Q

TO CLAIM THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE BANK ROLLS CALL: 1-800-260-7945 EXT. WHH1007 Are these Silver Walking Liberties worth more than other half dollars:
Yes. These U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberties were minted in the early 1900’s and will never be minted again. That makes them collectible. The vast majority of half dollars minted after 1970 have no silver content at all and these Walking Liberty Half Dollars were one of the last silver coins minted for circulation. So there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.
How much are State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls worth:
It’s impossible to say, but some of these U.S Gov’t issued Walking Liberty Half Dollars date back to the early 1900’s and there are 15 in each Bank Roll so you better hurry if you want to get your hands on them. Collector values always fluctuate and there are never any guarantees. But we do know Walking Liberties are collectible so anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Silver Bank Rolls should hold onto them because there’s no telling how much they could be worth in collector value someday.
How do I get the State Restricted Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls:
Pennsylvania residents are authorized to claim up to the limit of 4 Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls by calling the State Toll Free Hotline at 1-800-260-7945 Ext. WHH1007 starting at precisely 8:30 am this morning. Everyone who does is getting the only Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Rolls known to exist with the exclusive State Restricted Design. That’s a full Bank Roll containing 15 Silver Walking Liberties from the early 1900’s some worth up to 100 times their face value for just the state minimum set by the National Mint and Treasury of just $39 per Silver Walking Liberty, which is just $585 for the full Bank Rolls and that’s a real steal because non state residents must pay $1,770 for each Pennsylvania State Walking Liberty Silver Bank Roll if any remain.

PENNSYLVANIA - “Pennsylvania residents get first dibs. That’s why Hotline Operators are bracing for the flood of calls,” said Laura Lynne, U.S. Coin and Currency Director for the National Mint and Treasury. Beginning at precisely 7:30 am this morning State of Pennsylvania Sealed Bank Rolls loaded with rarely seen U.S. Gov’t issued Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars are actually being handed over to Pennsylvania residents who call the State Toll-Free Hotlines listed in today’s newspaper publication. “National Mint and Treasury recently spoke with its Chief Professional Numismatist who said ‘Very few people have ever actually saw one of these rarely seen Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars issued by the U.S. Gov’t back in the early 1900’s. But to actually find them sealed away in State Bank Rolls is like finding buried treasure. So anyone lucky enough to get their hands on these Bank Rolls had better hold on to them,’” Lynne said. “But here’s the good news. The Bank Rolls themselves have been marked State Restricted by price which means the state minimum set by National Mint and Treasury is restricted to Pennsylvania residents only and non-state residents must pay full price if any Bank Rolls remain,” Lynne confirmed This is important to note. “These are the only Pennsylvania State Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls known to exist. You can’t get them at banks or credit unions or the Government since they do not produce State Silver Walking Liberty Bank Rolls. In fact, you can only get them bearing the exclusive State Restricted Design and rolled this way directly from National Mint
