Golf Tournament To Benefit Animal House Project

The fourth annual charity golf tournament to benefit Animal House Project (AHP) will be held on Friday, July 22, at the Honeybrook Golf Club, 1422 Cambridge Road, Honey Brook. Proceeds will benefit AHP, whose mission is to keep companion pets at home by providing donated pet food and pet care services.

The charity golf outing will open with registration and a continental breakfast at 8 a.m. Tee-off with a shotgun start will begin at 9 a.m. The registration fee includes range balls, green fees, the use of a cart, a swag bag, free beer and a lunch buffet in the course pavilion. Also included will be a skee ball contest and a 50/50 drawing. There will also be prizes for the golfers, including a $25,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one.

Groups of four and individuals are invited to register to play golf. Nongolfers are also welcome to attend to enter the prize drawings. “They can attend and buy chances. We will have about 50 baskets,” noted MaryBeth Yannessa, AHP board president and golf committee volunteer.

Baskets will include donated items such as a George Foreman stand-up grill, two complimentary tickets to Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom and a basket from Victory Brewing Company. Local golf courses, including Kimberton Golf Club, Brookside Country Club and Penn Oaks Golf Club, have all donated golf passes for a group of four.

Animal House Project dba Chester County Pet Food Pantry began in June of 2001 as the 2 Moon Junction Animal House Project, a no-kill animal rescue group in East Fallowfield Township. After realizing that most of the animals were being surrendered because families could not afford to feed or provide basic veterinary care for them, the Chester County Pet Food Pantry was formed in 2004.

Each year, the organization helps people feed and care for their companion pets in order to keep them out of shelters and rescues. In addition, the organization provides spaying, neutering and low-cost vaccination of pantry clients’ pets. The pantry serves clients in Chester, Berks and Montgomery counties.

the launch of a larger scholastic jazz festival during the 2023 Berks Jazz Fest. The intention is for the new festival to become a local, regional, and eventually national draw for students, educators, and families to enjoy a jazz education experience through workshops, masterclasses, performances, competitions, jams, and more.

To support the Get JazzED Committee, headed by professional jazz saxophonist and retired educator Mike Eben, Berks Arts has added Scott Litzenberg to the team as educational events coordinator. Litzenberg spent 34 years as a high school band director prior to his recent retirement and has also led and managed events in the music education and performance world across the nation.

Fest, Get JazzED has held Doc Mulligan Day, in which several local school jazz bands perform in an exhibition and are critiqued by three adjudicators. The following evening, the committee has hosted the RMF/Project Penske Jazz Jam at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Reading. This session is open to all students who perform alongside Berks Jazz Fest artists in front of an audience.

Beginning in 2023, the scholastic festival will expand to Monday through Thursday during Berks Jazz Fest, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, to Sunday, April 2, 2023. Band directors from local and regional middle schools and high schools will be invited to participate.

Pet food distributions take place on the first Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in a drivethrough format at the pantry’s new ★ location, 72 Robinson St., Pottstown, located off Route 100 near Motel 6. “We have a 7,500-square-foot building, which has a loading dock and a drive-in door, which makes it easier,” said Yannessa, noting that pantry clients were advised of the move in advance. “We sent out letters and postcards. We knew in September that we would be moving. January was our first pantry distribution (at the new location).”
