Chester County has launched a safety awareness campaign to keep pedestrians and bicyclists safe and drivers aware. The “Walk. Ride. Drive. Safe” campaign offers tips and rules for drivers, bicyclists and walkers when sharing lanes.
Social media posts will remind pedestrians to keep their phone down and head up when walking along the side of a road, to walk facing traffic, and to stay to the left. Cyclists will be urged to stay off their phones and make themselves highly visible with lights and reflectors. The messages will also remind drivers to slow down and move over to safely pass walkers and joggers.
In addition to the Planning Commission, partners involved in the “Walk. Ride. Drive. Safe” program include the Chester County Health Department, Department of Emergency Services and Parks + Preservation, plus PennDOT, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, SEPTA, TMACC, Greater Valley Forge TMA, DVRPC and West Chester University. Boscov’s has officially opened registration for its largest annual fundraising event, Friends Helping Friends. During the oneday, in-store only event, Boscov’s will offer significant discounts.
To participate in the event, customers will receive a Shopping Pass after donating a set amount to a partnering nonprofit organization; the nonprofit organization will keep 100% of the Shopping Pass donation proceeds.
Each year, more than 3,000 nonprofit organizations participate in the event, which raises more than $1 million in donations, according to Jim Boscov, chairman and CEO.
The Friends Helping Friends event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 19, during store hours from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The shopping discount applies to in-store purchases only.
Participants may register to win a Boscov’s gift card. There will be one winner per store.
