Asked what he enjoys most about racing, Logan cited “going fast” and “winning,” but noted that traveling is fun as well. He said that he has visited Florida, Georgia, both North and South Carolina, and Tennessee and has traveled up the East Coast as well. Heading west, he has been to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kansas, South Dakota, and Colorado. “I just got back from Jacksonville, Fla.,” said Logan in mid-January. While in Florida, he finished third in the Winter Throwdown races held Jan. 8 and 9.
Logan looks forward to turning professional as soon as he celebrates his 16th birthday in September, but he noted that will depend on the racing schedule. “If there are only one or two races after my birthday, I might wait until 2022,” he said. “This is what I want to do,” he added, grinning.

The Spinnin’ Spurs 4-H Horse Club will hold its reorganizational meeting on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, in the multi-purpose room at 6:30 p.m. Youths must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The 4-H Horse Cloverbuds, open to children ages 5 to 7 as of Jan. 1, will also meet at the same time and location with their own age-appropriate books and activities. 4-H Horse Clubs provide educational opportunities but do not provide horses or riding lessons. National Wear Red Day Planned
The American Heart Association, a nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, together with its signature movement, Go Red for Women, encourages community members to wear red and donate on National Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 5, and throughout February. National Wear Red Day seeks to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in women. The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health and is supported locally by companies throughout central Pennsylvania.
Those who plan to participate in National Wear Red Day may consider purchasing the Red Dress Pin and other apparel at www.ShopHeart.org.
Community members may make a donation to support the work of the American Heart Association at www.WearRedDay.org. They may join the conversation by sharing Wear Red Day selfies, personal stories about heart disease and tips using #WearRedAndGive and tagging @AHAPennsylvania on social media.
Community members may also consider signing up to participate in clinical trial research through the Go Red for Women movement and Verily’s Project Baseline. More information is available by visiting www.GoRed ForWomen.org, clicking on “Research” under “Get Involved” and clicking “Join thousands of women in the fight against heart disease.”
To treat, beat and prevent heart disease and stroke, women should understand their family health history and know their five key personal health numbers, which help determine risk for heart disease and stroke. These numbers are total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index.
Additionally, women should make healthy behavior changes like moving more, eating smart and managing their blood pressure.
Women should know the warning signs of heart attacks and strokes. Heart disease and stroke symptoms can present differently in women than in men.
Valentine’s Day Fundraiser Set
The fifth annual “Hearts for Lancaster” Valentine’s Day fundraiser, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lancaster Penn Square, will kick off on Friday, Feb. 5. Large, personalized, red hearts will be suspended from the lamp posts in the downtown Lancaster area and will remain, declaring love and affection, for two weeks. The club will also continue celebrating love for fur babies by hanging people’s choice of a dog bone, a heart, or a dog silhouette on the fence in front of Binns Park.
Proceeds from the event in past years have allowed the Penn Square club to purchase two new bicycles and radio equipment for the Lancaster City Alliance’s bike ambassadors, equipment for Arbor Place and North Star Initiative’s Harbor House, scholarships for Music for Everyone, sewer guards for some of the sewer grates in Lancaster, park benches in the city of Lancaster, and more. In 2021, proceeds will support the creation and installation of the city’s public art program sponsored “Diversity Mural” to be installed on West King Street in July. The club is also working to adopting Penn Square and its monument through the city’s Adopt a Block Program.
Club members will work at The Holiday Inn through approximately Wednesday, Feb. 10, putting names on the hearts and assembling the hardware necessary to hang them. For more information, readers may contact Anne Williams at awilliams@desfint.com or 717-396-0474.
