Ministry To Host Virtual Walk Run For Life

Align Life Ministries has announced that its 2020 Walk Run for Life will be a virtual event.

To participate, individuals may choose a healthy, safe, and fun activity to do by Saturday, May 9, such as running, walking, playing dodgeball, taking a bike ride, having a catch, hiking, or playing hopscotch. They should also take a picture of themselves doing the activity and post it to their Facebook or Instagram account using hashtags #WalkRunforLife2020 and #AlignLifeMinistries; pictures may also be emailed to info@alignlifeministries.org.

Those who plan to run the 5K distance should measure their distance and track their time. They should then email their name, age, and final run time to info@alignlifeministries.org by midnight on May 9. Medals will be mailed to winners, and all 5K participants will receive swag.

The event season will culminate on May 9 at 9:30 a.m. with a five- to 10-minute livestream video.

The Walk Run for Life is a major fundraiser for Align Life Ministries, and participants have the opportunity to raise funds for the ministry by garnering pledges through an online fundraising page, which is automatically created when they register.

To register or to obtain information on fundraising, readers may visit https://alignlife ministries.org/get-involved/walk -run-for-life/. Registration will close on Friday, May 8, at midnight.

For more information, readers may visit www.alignlife ministries.org or contact Heather Muncy at hmuncy @alignlifeministries.org or 717- 274-5128, ext. 315.

Donations Sought For Building Wells

Unto, a Cru ministry formerly known as Global Aid Network, is accepting donations for water wells in the African nation of Chad. In Chad, some people must either drink dirty water if it is available or walk a great distance to obtain clean water.

A donor has given Unto a $165,000 matching gift to help people who do not have access to safe, clean water. Readers who would like to take this opportunity to double their impact may donate at https://unto.com/.

TO CAMPUS TODAY CHOOSING A COLLEGE IS A HUGE DECISION

As we face the challenges of today, we are committed more than ever to helping you succeed.

Students from the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC) attended a broadcast of an episode of WITF’s “Smart Talk” on Feb. 27 at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. The program was a remote broadcast of the station’s daily public affairs radio program. The day’s topic was career and technical education (CTE). Students from CTE institutions from all over the region attended the broadcast.

Keith Yohn, assistant administrative director of the LCCTC, was one of the chaperones for the LCCTC students attending the broadcast. He said that the radio show was an opportunity to share information and insight on CTE and on the role that career and technology centers have in preparing their students to further their education.

The broadcast featured interviews and panel discussions with questions from the students in the audience. According to the Smart Talk website, interviewees and panelists included Gene Barr, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry. Barr spoke about the demand for a technically skilled workforce. Additional guests included Scott Rogers, assistant director at York County School of Technology; Nadia Stuckey, a senior in the engineering and advanced manufacturing program at York County School of Technology; Justin Bruhn, director of Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School; and Kasey Davis, a senior in the dental assisting program at Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School. Students from the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC) attended a broadcast of WITF’s “Smart Talk.” Accompanied by Keith Yohn (left), LCCTC assistant administrative director, and Melody Miller (second from right), LCCTC medical assistant instructor, the students were (from second from left) Julian Honaker, a participant in the administrative medical assistant program, Hempfield School District; Melinda Miller, medical assistant program, Manheim Central School District; and Ashley Burkett, medical assistant program, Penn Manor School District.

Bingo Game Highlights Local Businesses

Penn State Extension is connecting with Latinx agriculturists in essential food businesses to provide timely outreach and science-based education on farm production, food safety and workplace risk management. Spring is a critical season for Penn State Extension to engage on a regular basis with agricultural producers and farm employees.

The initiative is an outgrowth of the new Penn State Extension Latinx Agricultural Network advised by Latinx community leaders. As part of this effort, faculty in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Extension educators set up a Facebook page in Spanish at www.facebook.com/PennState AgriculturaEnEspanol. The page directs Latinx stakeholders to knowledge-based resources in Spanish that can be accessed easily during this period of social distancing.

Educational formats will include interactive webinars, selfpaced online courses, highly visual “Learn Now” videos, and seasonal updates and Extension articles. Highlights include the following: a series of new dairy webinars on transition cow management that will build on prior applied dairy management webinars in Spanish; vegetable and small-fruit articles that share on-farm tour experiences along with production technologies such as high tunnels; timely tree-fruit news releases and self-paced training resources for orchard employees and new growers; timely field and forage crop recommendations and sentinel plot reports; produce-safety education manuals, videos and other training resources that farmers can use to train small groups of employees; and a multi-team series of farm-to-consumer food system articles on how to minimize risk related to COVID-19.

For more information, readers may contact Maria Gorgo at mag38@psu.edu.

The City of Lancaster Office of Promotion and the Lancaster City Alliance recently released a bingo game to promote a safe and fun way to continue shopping and dining in Lancaster city amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first of four bingo cards will feature city restaurants that offer takeout; cards are available on the @visitlanccity Instagram account or by emailing LOOP@cityoflancaster pa.com. Participants who want to play bingo and compete for a prize will order takeout or delivery from the eateries listed on the card to complete a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line across the card to achieve bingo. Participants should photograph themselves enjoying the food or just the food itself. Once they complete a line on the bingo card, participants may submit their completed card and photographs by emailing their photos to LOOP @cityoflancasterpa.com or sending a direct message on Instagram to @visitlanccity with the photos and the marked card attached.

Each bingo submitted will be entered into a drawing to receive Downtown Dollars for a dining experience. More than one entry may be submitted. If there are two bingos on one card, that counts as two entries. One winner will be drawn every two weeks. The first two bingo cards will feature restaurants, and the next two cards will feature city retail shops.

The bingo idea came from Provo City, Utah.
