Cavod To Take “Cinderella” Beyond The Fairy Tale
By Ann Mead Ash
Moravian Manor residents Marsha Campbell and Susan Newell love the retirement community’s library. “This is our little shared fireplace,” said Newell, pointing to the fireplace that opens to both the library and the cafeteria directly inside the main building’s front door. “This is just such a cozy space.” “Doesn’t this ... make you want to pick up a magazine or a book and sit and read?” added Campbell. “It’s unusual not to find someone here on the computer or reading the paper.” Both ladies have signed on to the committee, co-chaired by Linda Sloan and Roberta Machalek, that is organizing Moravian Manor Library’s fourth used book sale. The sale will be held in Center Court at Moravian Manor, 300 W. Lemon St., Lititz, on Friday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and See Moravian Manor pg 3

Heart2Heart4Women will hold its first monthly event focusing on tattoos that tell stories of faith at The Barn at Stoner Commons on Feb. 27. The agenda will include an art gallery and speakers in a relaxing atmosphere.
Monica DePaul, director of the upcoming musical production of “Cinderella” at Cavod Theatre, admits she has not always been a fan of fairy tales in recent years. “They were fun when I was 8, but now I want to watch a girl who has dreams beyond the prince,” mused DePaul. Fortunately, the 2013 Broadway revival production of “Cinderella” gave DePaul a heroine with depth. “We still have a prince and a love story, but there’s self-discovery for Cinderella in this version and friendship and forgiveness,” said DePaul. “Even with a modern retelling, See Cinderella pg 2

Tracey Strohecker and Annie Friedrichs are both excited about the atmosphere that Heart2Heart4Women will offer those who attend, and neither can wait to invite area women to join them. Heart2Heart4Women will be a monthly event focused on women gathering together for friendship and networking opportunities. Attendees will also hear stories from women who have had experiences that others can learn from. “Come as you are and enjoy a venue designed around friendship and acceptance,” said Strohecker. “We’re looking for women to enjoy a great evening out in a safe place where we can build a sisterhood.” See Heart2Heart4Women pg 3

Approaching The Potter’s House (TPH) at Still Waters campus, 261 School Lane, Brownstown, located along the Conestoga River, one might expect to find a large institutional-style building ready to house students working to overcome addictions in a modern setting. Quite the opposite is true. Two nearly completed homes sit close together overlooking the Conestoga River. “We believe in family,” said TPH men’s ministry director Lanny Millette. “The (students) come out of institutions, so we want them to experience a more intimate family-style setting.” See The Potter s House pg 6

“Cinderella” from pg 1 it doesn’t lose that old-fashioned charm.” “Cinderella” will play at the Cavod Theatre, 685 W. Main St., New Holland, at 7 p.m. on Fridays, Feb. 28 and March 6; at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 29 and March 7; and at 4 p.m. on Sundays, March 1 and 8. “Cinderella” is based on the age-old tale of the same name. This version focuses on the main character, calling her Ella, played by Hannah Rau, but adds revolutionary Jean-Michael, played by Joe Kelly, and a woman known as Marie, played by Kylie Nabers, who will transform on stage into the fairy godmother. Meanwhile, the prince, played by Alexander Weaver and known as Topher (short for Christopher), worries that slaying dragons is not important enough work for a future king. According to DePaul, the cast of about 20 is also taking to the unique takes included in the revised show. “There’s humor,” stated DePaul. “When people think of Cinderella, they don’t think of the comedy, but this version is very funny. (The cast is) embracing it, and I am loving what they’re doing.” DePaul noted that the comedy should appeal to both adults and children. “There is
satire,” she said, noting that the show plays with stereotypical characters in fun ways. “(Jean-Michael) is a political activist, and he wants to call the people to focus on what’s important, (such as) land or food, but the prince invites everyone to the ball and that overtakes (the activist’s) stump speech. Something superficial overtakes what everyone should be caring about.” The production also utilizes physical movement and music to tell parts of the story. “We have some fabulous dancers, and we are using their dance ability to create the magic of the transformations,” said DePaul. “There will be dancers in costumes that suggest animal characters who through their dancing become footmen,” she explained. As a Rodgers and Hammerstein show, “Cinderella” delivers a variety of music, much of which audience members will recognize. Ella will sing “In My Own Little Corner.” Other familiar numbers will include “The Prince Is Giving a Ball” and “Impossible/It’s Possible,” sung by the fairy godmother. Hannah and Alex will also sing “Ten Minutes Ago” about the joys of spontaneous love. Newer songs will include “Me, Who Am I?” and “Now Is the Time,” which will be
sung by Joe. DePaul hopes individuals who see the show will relate to the transformations they see in the characters on stage. “I really want the audience (members) to find themselves in Cinderella’s shoes and know they’re worthy,” said DePaul. “(Ella) struggles with her self-worth, (but) her fairy godmother is there to let her know she is beautiful and capable and smart. She ends up helping to bring change to her kingdom. We all have the potential to be beyond ourselves.” Tickets, which are discounted for students age 17 and under, may be purchased in advance at www.CavodAcademy.com or by calling 717-354-3355 on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets may be available at the door for a higher price.
LMHS To Present “Beauty And The Beast” Musical And Meet-And-Greet By Ann Mead Ash
When Lancaster Mennonite High School (LMHS) musical director Dean Sauder chose the musical “Beauty and the Beast” for the school’s spring offering, he was not thinking about how aspects of the play would echo the school’s theme for the year of “Transformation,” but he was amazed to recognize how the two went hand-in-hand. “When we come to Christ, we are transformed,” noted Dean. “Belle sees the possibilities in (the Beast), and she doesn’t write him off,” said Dean, adding that with the Beast’s rival, Gaston, the outside
masks a less-attractive interior. “Are there possible Christian undertones?” he wondered. “It’s not a Christian story, but I don’t think it’s a far leap.” “Beauty and the Beast” will be produced at LMHS in the Fine Arts Center, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27; Friday, Feb. 28; and Saturday, Feb. 29. A matinee performance will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 1. In addition, a breakfast meet-andgreet with the principal cast members will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, in the school dining hall, beginning at 8:30 a.m. “(Attendees) can dance with Belle and the
Beast,” said Dean, who added that activities with other characters will be available to those who attend the ticketed event. Individuals who attend in costume will be able to purchase a discounted ticket to see the play. “Beauty and the Beast” is the tale of Belle, played by Becca Sauder, and the Beast, played by Noah Schnabel, who is really a prince trapped under a spell. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the spell will be broken, and he will become human again. Other principal characters include Isaac Kraenbring as Belle’s father, Maurice; Chadman Martin as Gaston; Isaac See LMHS pg 5

This summer, six young men from Lancaster County - ranging in age from 15 to 19 - will be flying to the West Coast to take on a 3,820-mile, 63-day bicycle ride from Oregon to Maine. The Trans Am Extreme Challenge Ride is a new undertaking for each of the riders and for Lifecycles, a nonprofit mentoring program committed to building young men and women of character through bicycling adventures. Retired United States Air Force Col. Lee DeRemer developed the vision for Lifecycles after seeing a transformation of sorts in his nephews after they had conquered a bicycle trip through Montana and Wyoming together. DeRemer had planned

Moravian Manor from pg 1 Saturday, Feb. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Center Court is found by going straight through the cafeteria after entering the front doors of the main building. Books will be sold at a nominal price for hardcovers and a discounted price for paperbacks. From 1 to 2 p.m. on Feb. 29, a buck-a-bag special will be offered. Campbell recommended that visitors to the sale park on Moravian Avenue. The committee of nearly 10 members has gathered more than 1,000 titles for the sale. “Most of what we have is fiction,” said Newell, who noted that a fair number of science and history books and a handful of children’s books will also be available for purchase, along with a few cookbooks. She noted that some CDS and DVDs will be sold, and Campbell added that a collection of religious books will be in the mix. Biographies and philosophy books will also be offered for sale. “We have more paperbacks, but a nice selection of hardbacks,” said Campbell.
Newell noted that the committee expected a few more books to come in prior to the sale because new senior residents of Warwick Woodlands have been given an opportunity to donate. “We asked them to weed through collections as they are getting ready to move, and we gave them one week to drop (the books) off,” she explained. Moravian Manor began holding the annual sale after finding the library overwhelmed with donations. “The shelves were more than full,” explained Campbell. “We thought we should update, and as we started culling, we thought, ‘We just don’t want to throw these away.” The committee chose to hold the sale in February before other organizations hold larger spring sales. “One of the first years, we had a large storage area, and we sorted a month before,” recalled Campbell. “Lately, we are sorting as we go, which makes it easier.” She said the committee will begin to set up the sale

“It’s so much more than just friendship and networking,” added Friedrichs. “It’s for the girl who wants to come out and have a casual evening. There is nothing demanded of you.” Heart2Heart4Women will hold its first dinner and art gallery on Thursday, Feb. 27, at The Barn at Stoner Commons, 605 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The appetizer buffet will open at 6 p.m. Each evening will include appetizers at a nominal cost, an art gallery with photos connected to a specific theme, and stories of real women. The art gallery for the February gathering, called “The Tattoos of the Overcomer: Stories of Courage,” will feature the tattoos of women who have spent time in area recovery shelters. The gallery scheduled for the March event, which is planned for Thursday, March 19, will
feature tattoos of women who work out in local gyms as part of a display called “The Tattoos of Fitness: Stories of Perseverance.” During the February event, Brenda Schilder will share her story of overcoming a major health crisis. “Overcoming my double mastectomy was a work in progress,” said Schilder. “My artwork/tattoo helped to hide the scars and restore my rainbow of life.” That same evening, Amy Thurston will share what motivated her to start Hope. Inspire. Love. The organization fights human trafficking. “These girls have powerful, lifechanging stories,” said Friedrichs. “They’re willing to share, and they’re touching our hearts.” Those who attend will be welcome to share their own stories if they wish. “So many of us have something going on (that can give us) the opportunity to reach out to another woman and connect,” noted Friedrichs. “We want (women who attend) to feel

In addition to the main library, the community has a satellite library in the personal care and skilled care units for residents who would find it hard to get to the main library. A satellite location is planned at Warwick Woodlands as well. According to Newell, funds raised by the sale will be donated to Moravian Manor Community Life, which oversees the distribution of funds to individual groups in the community. “(The money we raise) stays in-house,” explained Campbell, who noted that the sale has raised up to $400 in the past. “I am hoping to raise $500 this year,” she said. Newell noted that the sale will be held rain or shine or snow. Moravian Manor has been a fixture in Lititz for more than 40 years. The organization offers a variety of retirement and continuing care options and encompasses two distinct campuses. Strohecker and Friedrichs hope women will see the event as a place where each woman is accepted where she is and as she is, so she feels she is in a place of belonging. Warwick Matmen Compete in Sectionals by Vaughn Brown
With the regular season in the rear window, the Warwick mat rats have now turned their attention to the long road which leads to Hershey and the heralded PIAA Championships. With three stops along the way, the Warriors’ second season began in Landisville where the team participated in the District Three Class AAA Section Two tournament. Only the top four wrestlers from each weight class qualify for districts which will be held this weekend at Spring Grove High School, a recent departure from the Giant Center where the tournament had been held in past years. Of the 14 wrestlers that represented Warwick, five finished in position to advance into the District Three Championships. Leading the pack were 220 pounder Matt Woolley who took home silver and Haydn Shreiner at 152 pounds with a bronze medal finish. Owen Heffner (113), David Woolley (138), and Hayden Benner (285) all placed fourth in their respective weight classes to round out the group of district qualifiers while David Hnasko (182) garnered a sixth-place medal. Matt Woolley’s first win came in Friday’s quarterfinals where he made quick work of Donegal’s Connor Ruhl with a fall in 1:12 to advance into Saturday’s semifinals against Logan Bradley from Lampeter-Strasburg. After Bradley’s takedown in the second period tied the score at 2-2, Woolley went back on top with a two-point reversal for a 4-2 lead that he added to in the third when he hit a five-point move from the bottom position that spring boarded him into the finals with a 9-2 victory. Facing off against Marques Holton from powerhouse Central Dauphin, Woolley struggled to find purpose as he earned an escape in the first period, but trailed 7-2 heading into the second. Surrendering three points on a reversal and technical violation, Woolley eventually was turned and pinned at the 2:20 mark of the bout. Shreiner’s path to Spring Grove was slightly longer, but in the end his ticket was punched in the third-place bout with a 9-3 decision over Hempfield’s Joel Dionne. Following a score-

less first period, Shreiner jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second, scoring an escape and two takedowns while yielding an escape. In the third, Shreiner’s two takedowns trumped Dionne’s two escapes, earning him a spot on the medal stand. Beginning his journey with a 19-3 tech fall over Elizabethtown’s Jake Rudy in the quarters, Shreiner took a detour through the wrestle backs after running afoul of eventual champ Colt Barley from Penn Manor in an 8-0 semifinal defeat. In the coni-semis, he then had his run of things versus Solanco’s Wade Adams, running out to a 14-5 lead before getting the fall in the second period. Heading into the third period tied at 2-2 in his round of 16 matchup with Central Dauphin’s Pierce Souders, Owen Heffner was able to use a reversal to his advantage as he flattened Souders out and got the fall with 45 seconds remaining in the bout that sent him on his way to a fourth place finish on Saturday. Heffner followed up with a 13-3 dismantling of Manheim Central’s Connor Beck in the quarterfinals before Manheim Township’s Aliazer Alicea derailed him with a 10-0 major decision. In the wrestle backs, a 6-2 decision over Donegal’s Jansen Flohr landed Heffner a spot in the third place bout opposite Weston Bare from Solanco who turned a 2-0 lead into a second period fall. David Woolley spent most of his weekend in the consolation bracket following a loss to Hempfield’s Grant Hoover in the quarterfinals, a bout in which he trailed 5-1 at one point before battling back to 5-4 in the third where Hoover transitioned a take down into a fall. From there he wrestled three bouts, working a fall over Lampeter-Strasburg’s Logan Bonholtzer, a 5-0 decision over Jonathan Berlingeri from McCaskey, and a 3-0 decision over Palmyra’s Jacob Myers-to earn his way into the third-place bout with Solanco’s Ronnie Fulton, which took a sudden victory to decide. Heading into the third period scoreless, Fulton struck first with a reversal before giving up one point on a violation and a two-point reversal for a 3-2 Woolley lead. Fulton’s last second escape tied things up and his subsequent sudden victory takedown sealed the victory. Hayden Benner’s tournament began with an 8-5 decision over Hempfield’s Caleb Mussmon in which Benner’s 8-0 lead began to shrink drastically in the third when Mussmon scored five unanswered points, but was not able to close the deal. Benner then entered the wrestle backs with a 14-5 loss to Zac Shelley from L-S where his 5-1 decision over Penn Manor’s Ben Weaver landed him in a fight for third place with Denzel Okyere-Darko who earned the victory with a second period fall. While not earning a trip to districts, Hnasko did land in sixth place following a long trip through the wrestle backs following a 6-2 decision loss to Logan Davidson of L-S. Hnasko then pinned Manheim Central’s Michael O’hara and earned an 11-2 major decision over Robert Castagna before a fall to Donegal’s David Small pitted him against McCaskey’s Jose Garcia who earned a 3-2 decision in the fifth place bout. BOYS’ BASKETBALL It was a wild week for the Warwick basketball team as it
looked wrap up a League title to go along with their Section Two crown. The undermanned Warriors, without leading scorer Joey McCracken who was lost for the season to a knee injury, roared into the finals with a 71-65 quarterfinal triumph over Columbia and a 50-37 defeat of Lancaster Catholic in the semis. In that final game they took on Section One champ Cedar Crest and with their usual attack from long distance, almost added that second trophy to the case, but came up just short in a 45-41 defeat. Going 8-25 on the night from beyond the arc, Warwick did not flinch from what helped get them there as they drained four 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game to get within three at 44-41 with just under 30 seconds to go, but it was not meant to be as the Falcons held on for the title win. Warwick trailed 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and went into the locker room down 24-15 at the break as the Cedar Crest defense kept all but one of the Warriors under double digits with Kai Cipalla emerging as the leader with 10. Outscoring the Falcons 26-21 over the second half, Warwick never quit fighting, but a dismal night at the foul line in which they went 5-17 hindered the Warriors in the end. Leading up to the championship tilt, Warwick received some help from unexpected sources as both Chase Yarberough and Chase Krall came through in the clutch. In last Monday’s matchup with the Crimson Tide, Yarberough got the start in place of McCracken and proceeded to put up career numbers, scoring 32 points, including six 3-pointers, and propelling Warwick to the quarterfinal victory. In all, seven combined players scored in double digits with Tate Landis (16), and Cipalla (11) leading the Warriors and Matthew McCleary (18), Michael Poole (14), Kerry Glover (12), and Luis Cruz (12) spearheading Columbia’s charge. Warwick held the lead through most of the game, outscoring the Tide
14-11 in the first quarter and holding a 33-22 advantage at halftime before Columbia came on strong in the second half with a 43-38 run to end the game. It was Krall’s turn in the semifinal matchup with Lancaster Catholic as he came off the bench and scored a game high 21 points, all of which came from his 7-8 effort from beyond the arc. Trailing by nine points after a quarter of play, the Warriors clawed their way to within four, and entered halftime down 16-12. With a 6-0 run to start the third quarter, the Crusaders led 22-12 before Warwick roared back to take a 34-26 advantage into the fourth. From there it was all Warwick as Lancaster Catholic slowly fell behind with no answer for the Warriors on offense. BOWLING Warwick’s bowlers took to the lanes last Monday during the Lancaster-Lebanon League team championships in hopes of earning a shot at the title, but that was not to be as the Warriors fell to Northern Lebanon in the first round. “We drew a formidable opponent in the first round,” noted head coach Neal Vital. “Northern Lebanon has the top girl bowler in the league in Aliza Shirk, along with her brother Ambrose Shirk.” Carter Snavely led the way, rolling a 213, as the Warriors took game one by a score of 935-924. Snavely went on to roll a team high 612 series, adding a 263 in the second game and a 136 in the third while Chris Goldsborough rolled a 197, 214, and 172 for a 583 and Tyler Miler rolled a 566 series with a 192, 194, and 180. Northern Lebanon, however, proved too strong in the end for Warwick to handle. “Despite shooting 1021 in the second game, we couldn’t overcome the Shirks, and fell to their 1037,” added Vital. “Northern Lebanon then took game three 969 - 845 and went on to face, and defeat, Penn Manor in the semifinals.”

Harnish as Cogsworth, with Brendan Johnson as his sidekick, Lumiere; and Ella Murray as Mrs. Potts. About a year ago, Dean saw a production of the show that put some unique twists on the story. The changes motivated him to take on the show, which he said can be an overwhelming task. “It’s a huge show in every aspect,” said Dean of helming the cast of 53. In addition to the challenges of vocals, sets, and costumes, the stage show includes several musical numbers not found in the movie. “They have added a number of beautiful ballads that enhance the story,” said Dean, who noted that many of the songs are sung by the Beast and that Belle and Maurice sing a duet. “There’s a big production number called ‘Human Again,’ where all the objects dream of what it would be like to be human again,” said Dean. To enhance sound, the pit orchestra will be located on stage behind the action. “Beauty and the Beast” brings many inanimate objects to life, and the LMHS production will take that a step further by giving additional inanimate life forms a chance to move. “In the forest, there will be actors that portray trees, and the enchanted rose will also be portrayed by a live actress,” said Dean. Cast members reported that they are enjoying the challenges of the show, with Becca commenting that the music is vocally interesting. Harnish is having fun developing the character of the uptight Cogsworth, as is Martin with the over-the-top villain Gaston. Murray is relishing perfecting her British accent. As the Beast, Schnabel is working to portray a frightening creature that sings. “We have the idea that the beast is dark and brooding, but when he sings, it’s a high
The riders will set out from Sunset Beach, Ore., in June and finish out in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Four adult riders will accompany the youths, and a support and gear (SAG) van driven by two adults will follow the group. Continental breakfasts, lunches prepared by the SAG volunteers, and dinners at restaurants will fuel the riders as they tackle approximately 150,000 feet of climbing - a total equivalent to more than five times the height of Mount Everest. So it is with good reason that when Monny was asked what he believes the most challenging part of the trip will be, he responded, “The hills. I’m not looking forward to the hills.” Training for the Trans Am ride will not only include lots of bicycling for the boys but weekly gym nights led by a personal trainer to cover cross-training. Micah’s mom, Melinda Clark, said that she is grateful for the avenue that Lifecycles has already provided to reinforce positive character traits and for the opportunity this trip will give to the boys to enhance decision-making and risk assessment skills. will be just one of the goals of the annual TPH banquet, which will celebrate the theme “Captivity to Destiny” when it is held on Friday, March 13, at Shady Maple Banquet Hall, 129 Toddy Drive, East Earl. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The special guest speaker at the event will be Samuel Mwangi, pastor of Carpenter Community Church in Brownstown and founder with his wife, Gladys, of CCARS: Community Care and Addiction Recovery Services in Leola.
Mwangi is a graduate of Lancaster Bible College and a board-certified addictions counselor who has worked in the field of addictions since 2006. At CCARS, Mwangi’s goal is to provide professional services in an atmosphere of Christian love and compassion. Millette noted that the Still Waters campus, which will hold a director’s house and a pavilion, in addition to the two student houses, will be for students in their first 90-day phase of recovery when care is intensive. “The houses we currently have (in Leola and New Holland) will be phase two houses, (where students are) moving into the community with support and structure,” explained Millette. “Phase three (features) discipleship houses with minimal structure but (still with) support and drug testing.” Rob Weatherholtz, men’s associate ministry director, pointed to the riverbank between the house and the Conestoga and commented on the area’s importance to the organization’s goals. “When we work on family counseling, we will work on the family dynamic too,” he said, noting that a volleyball net, horseshoes, and a campfire pit are all planned for the area. “We want this to be an atmosphere of healing,” he said. “That’s why we called it Still Waters, (which is) from Psalm 23,” he added, paraphrasing, “He leads us beside still waters and restores our souls.” TPH hopes to have a similar ministry for women, which will be called The House of Ruth, up and running in Leola by the end of March. The ministry is also launching Weather-All Home Services to provide sustainable support to the organization. Hoover gestured across the river and noted that his father’s family’s farm was located in the area. The land on which Still Waters is being built once belonged to the Weatherholtz family. “The history here is part of the story of this place,” Hoover said. “(Still Waters) is about transformation and new beginnings - a new fresh purpose for this ground.” There is no cost to attend the banquet, but registration is requested. Readers who would like to register for the banquet must do so by Friday, Feb. 28, by emailing ttcph.office@ gmail.com, searching for “The Potter’s 2020 House Banquet” on www.eventbrite.com, or by calling 717844-1720 or 610-718-6249. Schaller To Speak At Art Association Meeting
john@glickbrothersroof.com
PA 042916
The Lititz Art Association will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz. Jeff Schaller will present a “Bringing a Studio Tour to Lancaster County.” Schaller uses one of the oldest mediums to paint with, encaustic. He said he likes to dive into his subject matter and then make it into art. He will discuss some of his big breaks, such as being on
the television show “Friends” and painting murals for Iron Hill Brewery, along with pitfalls and how things have changed. In 2008, Schaller decided to develop the Studio Tour as a way for him and other artists to sell art. The Studio Tour is a way to crowd source with artists. Schaller has developed studio tours for Chester, Montgomery and Delaware counties.
The program is free and open to the public. The Lititz Art Association aims to foster fine arts and to cooperate with other associations having similar purposes. Membership is open to all interested persons age 18 or older. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. More information is available at www.LititzArtAssociation.com.
Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, will host a visit by national bestselling author Laura Bradford on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bradford will share pictures, as well as fun facts she learned while researching for her Amish-based women’s fiction and mystery novels. Copies of Bradford’s books will be available to purchase. Registration is required by visiting www.mtpl.info/events or calling 717-560-6441.

Post 429 To Reopen Rainbow Room The Cloister American Legion, Ephrata Post 429, 300 Cocalico St., Ephrata, will hold the grand reopening of the Rainbow Room on Saturday, Feb. 22, with doors opening at 6 p.m. The celebration will be open to the public free of charge. The band Easily Amused will play at 8 p.m. Additionally, representatives from all departments of the American Legion will be on hand to answer questions about membership, and there will be an opportunity to sign up on-site. Food and beverage specials will be available throughout the night. The Rainbow Room is the large downstairs bar that had suffered water damage years ago when air infiltration from deteriorated windows cracked water lines in the ceiling. About four years ago, the Sons of the American Legion Squadron began the lengthy project of replacing windows, replacing water and sewer lines, and renovating the room and upstairs restrooms. In December 2018, the American Legion Riders Charter was started at the Ephrata Post and the Legion Riders began to lend a hand with some of the remaining upgrades, along with other members of the Legion. Ephrata American Legion is a smoke-free facility. For more information, readers may call 717-733-2576.
