“We’ll start the bidding at …” “Will ya give me…?” “Are you all done?” “Sold!”
Those chants will provide the backdrop when Lititz Area Mennonite School (LAMS) holds its upcoming auction. The auction will serve as a fundraiser for the private school.
LAMS’ annual live auction will take place on Friday, May 31, from 4 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 1050 E. Newport Road, Lititz. Breakfast will be served starting at 6 a.m. before the Saturday portion of the event.
The live auction will raise funds for LAMS’ general operating budget, which indirectly limits tuition costs and helps make LAMS’ faith-based education more affordable to families across Lancaster County.
“We’re trying to include the community,” said Autumn Hoffman, director of admissions and marketing for LAMS. “It’s kind of a community outreach event. (LAMS) really emphasizes service, and this is a way to partner with the community.”
A total of 30 donated items will be auctioned off, seven on Friday evening and 23 on Saturday. With an emphasis on experiences and services, the auction items will
include trips, getaways, tickets to Phillies games, beach house reservations, classes, photo sessions, tickets to a Sight & Sound Theatre performance, a pool party and dinner, a smokeless firepit, a zero-turn mower, a patio set and Adirondack chairs.
“Experiences can be more memorable (than items),” said Hoffman. “It’s a way to incorporate the family and draw
people together.”
More than 50 Lancaster County businesses are sponsoring LAMS’ auction, and many of these spon sors donated items and services to the event.

“It’s super cool to see how they’re all involved and sup porting us,” said Hoffman. “It’s wonderful that they’re willing to give.”

“(Fundraisers) are how our school runs,” said Hoffman. “We partner with families and donors. It’s a goal of ours to be financially accessible to everyone. The auction is definitely an avenue that helps us continue doing what we are doing.”

Families spending time together for a good cause is one of the most rewarding types of fun. It’s a wholesome experience that can only be enhanced by the presence of angelsAaron’s Acres Angels, that is. Aaron’s Acres Angels is a group of 20 middle school and high school students from the Manheim Township, Conestoga Valley and Hempfield school districts, as well as from Linden Hall School for Girls in Lititz. The group of young volunteers lends a hand with Aaron’s Acres events when it can.
One of its next efforts is organizing and marketing an Aaron’s Acres’ family movie night at Penn Cinema, 541 Airport Road, Lititz, on Thursday, May 30. The event will feature “The Garfield Movie,” with showings at 4:30 and 6 p.m. In addition to promoting the family movie night with flyers and posts on social media, Aaron’s Acres Angels will be greeting people and selling snacks to benefit the cause on the night of the event.

School to add second kindergarten class
Due to increasing demand, Our Mother of Perpetual Help School (OMPH School) in Ephrata will add a second kindergarten class for the 2024-25 school year. The full-day program will run on Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., and it is for
children who will be 5 years old before Sunday, Sept. 1.

In addition to full-day kindergarten for 5-year-olds, OMPH School offers full-day preschool for 3-yearolds, full-day prekindergarten for 4-year-olds, and classes for students in grades one through eight. An on-site after-school club is available until 5:30 p.m. each day.
The school is accredited by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.

Fundraiser card parties slated
The Loyal Christian Benefit Association Branch 1557 will hold a series of fundraiser card parties on Thursdays, May 30, June 6, June 13, and June 20. The events will be held at the Ephrata Recreation Center, 130 S. Academy Drive, Ephrata.
A variety of hot and cold food items will be available beginning at noon. Starting at 1 p.m., attendees will play haus and pinochle, with cash prizes for those with high and low scores. Door prizes will be awarded to all players. There is a fee. No reservations are required.
