Donegal Trout Unlimited will hold an online auction. The fundraiser will run from 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, through 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Approximately 60 bundled packages will be up for bids, including a fishing trip for two to Spruce Creek, a Tenkara rod and accessories, a dining package containing gift cards, assorted boxes of flies, pendants, necklaces, a Vera Bradley purse, prints by known artists, a dog bucket, a games bucket, and a camping bucket .

Bergman said that about 100 neighbors visited the event its first year. “Every year, I hold my breath, and when people start to arrive, I let it out and get excited,” said Bergman, who was concerned last year that the drive-through would not garner a good response. “We were so surprised,” she said, noting that vehicles began trickling in and then arriving in a steady flow. By the end of Simply Christmas 2020, 154 cars and more than 550 people had visited. “So many people were blessed, and we expect more this year,” said Bergman.

Simply Christmas will be held rain or shine or snow. “COVID can’t stop the Christmas message of hope … the celebration of Jesus … and the gift of life He offers,” said Bergman.

Christmas Carol Sing Scheduled

The Lititz Historical Foundation will host the annual Christmas Carol Sing on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Lititz Moravian Archives. The event will take place at Moravian Church Square near Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz.

The Moravian Trombone Choir will be on hand, and free song sheets will be handed out as attendees will sing holiday classics. Afterward, everyone is welcome to warm up inside fellowship hall of the church, where light refreshments will be served. “The Putz” will also be available for various showings throughout the evening in the church’s social hall.

The free event is open to the community.

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, invites the community to a performance by the Hershey Handbell Ensemble on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. as part of the church’s Musical Arts Series.

The Hershey Handbell Ensemble was formed in 2004 to fulfill the need for an auditioned community ensemble composed of people able to play advanced literature and interested in advancing the art of handbell ringing through education and performance. The 15member group, directed by Dr. Shawn Gingrich, performs on seven and a half octaves of Malmark handbells, handchimes, and other assorted instruments. The ensemble will have its selection of CD recordings available for purchase at the concert.

The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received during intermission, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Lancaster County Food Hub.

The community is also invited to St. Peter’s Christmas Eve services: a 2 p.m. family service outdoors; 3:30 and 5 p.m. family services indoors; and 7:30 and 9 p.m. traditional services indoors.

Additionally, the church’s Tanzania Mission Committee invites the community to its 14th Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. until noon or until cookies are sold out. Attendees may purchase a large container for a set fee and fill it with a variety of homemade holiday cookies baked by members of the congregation.

Safety precautions for the protection of guests and organizers will be taken. This year’s event will be held in the church’s Family Life Center to allow for social distancing.

Proceeds from the Cookie Walk will provide education and care for the orphans of Busoka Lutheran Church, St. Peter’s companion congregation in Tanzania.
