Hang in there!
Dear Student, Even though you may have studied English before, you still might not feel confident in your English ability. This is natural, since you have probably had few chances to practice communicating. Positively English will help you become more confident and fluent in English! You will listen and speak in English a lot, and you will use the grammar that you learned in grade school. Becoming good at English means you have to practice a lot, both in and outside of class. Your teacher and this textbook will help you improve your English, but you will also have to practice on your own. Luckily, it’s easy to study outside of class. You can find lots of good English material on the Internet or at your school library. If you have a smartphone or tablet device, you can carry your English around with you. You can practice whenever and wherever you want! Start by visiting www.positivelyenglish.com. There are lots of good resources and suggestions at the website for you. Your teacher can help you too. Remember, success is about working hard even when you make mistakes. As long as you are doing your best, then you’re a winner! Stay positive!
Dear Teacher, Greetings, and thank you for your interest in Positively English. The first thing I would suggest is to visit our website at www.positivelyenglish.com and download the teacher’s manual, which contains a detailed description of the course, its methodology, and suggestions for how to best structure the lessons and activities. You can also view the many other resources available, including e-learning activities, which can be used to augment and enhance your lessons in a variety of ways. Positively English is a unique conversation course based on TPR Story Telling. Each unit contains an activity called ‘Positively Practice’ where students work together in pairs and read stories and ask each other questions. The benefit of this method is that it provides massive student-generated comprehensible input, followed by student-initiated questions that force students to think, concentrate and reply in the target language. In addition, each unit of Positively English also has a task-based classroom research activity that allows students to practice the target language in an engaging and informative way. Students conduct a class survey, use the data to create a pie chart, and finally, present their results to fellow classmates. Positively English is targeted towards young-adult learners at the false-beginner and lower-intermediate levels. That is, it is assumed that students have had exposure to basic grammar, but still have a need to develop their communicative skills. Finally, this course takes advantage of blended-learning. Students can practice listening and do homework at the website. In addition, you and your students can use components of the text on most smartphones or tablets, as well as other multimedia devices. Please visit www.positivelyenglish.com for more information.
