Introduction Engineering Technology Group Background The Engineering Technology Group was formed in April 2005 and brought together five complimentary businesses. Being privately owned and having 50 employees. The Group comprises of the following companies –
Chiron Werke Exclusive UK distributor of Chiron, high speed, high technology machining centres. Turning Technologies Exclusive UK distributor of Nakamura-Tome, high speed, high technology, twin spindle turning centres. Hyfore Engineering Manufacturer of bespoke manual, hydraulic or pneumatic jigs and fixtures. Handtmann Exclusive UK distributor of the Handtmann range of large high performance multi axis machining centres. Feeler UK Exclusive UK distributor of the extensive Feeler range of CNC machine tools. Why the Group was formed Small niche distributors lack the resources necessary to meet industry challenges. While having the in-depth expertise the ability to manage large Turnkey projects is naturally limited. Conversely large companies with a broad product portfolio do not have the in-depth expertise and suffer from increased demands for standard products and the need to maintain a fast stock turnaround. By pooling the resources the in depth expertise from the factory trained applications engineers is enhanced and along side the factory trained service engineers the ability to provide highly innovative, precise turnkey projects is satisfied.
The Chiron Range 1. FZ08KS 5 Axis with Swivel Head The Chiron FZ08KS 5 axis machine is capable of machining components from a bar size up to 42mm dia. The C axis can rotate at speeds of up to 8000rpm to allow turning operations together with complex milling details supported by the 40 tool magazine. The spindle speeds vary from 15,000rpm to 40,000 rpm with the E style HSK40 spindle taper and coolant thro spindle up to 150bar. A Chip to Chip time of 1.9secs, rapid traverse rates of 90mtrs/min and accelerations up to 2g enable the machine to produce components in the shortest possible times. A further axis carries the manipulator with a combination of Tailstock, Vice and live centres. This th allows the 6 side to be completed in the machining cycle together with part ejection through the left hand side of the machine. This configuration is also available in the 12 srs range of machines which offer a larger bar capacity up to 64mm dia. 2. FZ12KS 5 Axis The Chiron FZ12KS 5axis machine incorporates a Tilt/Rotary table with continuous 5 axis control to allow machining of complex shapes from solid or casting/forgings. The C axis is Torque driven with 200rpm rotational speed and high dynamics to minimise transition times. The 280mm faceplate can accommodate zero point locations for fast and accurate change over times. The bridge size is 600mm which allows larger parts to be machined within the 550mm X axis stroke. Spindle speeds of 15,000/24,000/30,000 & 40,000 rpm and rapid traverse rates of 75mtrs/min ensure fast production times in non ferrous and ferrous materials. The ATC can be offered with a HSK50 48tool magazine or alternatively 32 tools with HSK63. Background magazines are available with up to 240 tool places. 3. FZ15KS 5 Axis
The Chiron FZ15KS 5axis is a heavy duty 5 axis trunion table machine with either 12,000rpm 37Kw 180Nm High power spindle motor or an alternative 20,000 rpm spindle for high speed Aluminium cutting. The chain tool magazine accommodates 48 tools with a chip to chip time of 2.1 seconds. Rapid traverse rates of 60mtrs/min and a 45 rpm torque driven C axis ensure non cutting times are kept to a minimum.
A 450mm dia faceplate can be mounted to the rotary table for accommodating larger parts and a twin spindle rotary table can be used for 2 per load operations or 2 separate operations. This configuration is also available in the 18srs range of machines with strokes up to 800mm in the X axis and a trunion bridge size of 920mm and a heavy duty spindle with 300Nm torque. 4. Mill 800 5 axis The Mill 800 5 Axis is a large capacity 5 Axis machine with a Tilt/Rotary 630mm dia table with a bridge size of 920mm or alternatively with a Twin pot configuration of 2 x 400mm diameter tables. The machine is available with a High torque HSK63A spindle suitable for machining of Titanium parts and alternatively with a 20,000rpm 75Kw drive for high speed Aluminium machining in the Aerospace industries.
The Mill srs machines with an X stroke of 3000mm or greater can be supplied with 2 x Rotary/tilt tables to allow shuttle machining with load & unload within the production cycle. 5. Mill Srs with Swivel Head The full range of Mill srs machines from 800mm to 6000mm in the X axis are available with the NC Swivel Head and together with a robust heavy duty rotary table provide a full 5 axis solution with a larger working envelope than the traditional working arrangements, particularly in the Aerospace industries. The B axis Swivel head rotates between +/-110 deg and the Rotary table A axis when supported with a hydraulically clamped tailstock can support a large Cube or tombstone Fixture to accommodate multiple set ups with longer run times. A 20,000 rpm 90Kw spindle motor with 70 bar coolant thro spindle provides high metal removal rates from typically billet material. The machines with X strokes of 4500mm and above are standard with Linear drive and are capable of shuttle machining with a change over time of 6 seconds. 6. Mill Srs with Swivel Head and Turning Table Alternatively for circular components which require Turning and peripheral work Chiron can provide a Horizontal Turning/Milling table (C axis) positioned to suit the component size and machining requirements.
Both B & C axes are torque driven to provide fast and smooth operations with minimal maintenance. The Large horizontal table dia. 520mm rotates at speeds up to 1000rpm and the Vertical table can accommodate bar dia’s of up to 150mm and
rotational speeds up to 4,500 rpm. This results in high capacity cutting with flexibility of a large tool magazine and 2.4 seconds chip to chip time. 7. Twin Spindle 5 Axis Machines Chiron Twin spindle machines are available throughout the range from DZ12srs with Spindle centre distances of 250mm & 320mm to the Big Mill 600mm centre machines with ISO50/HSK100A spindle tapers.
