IT UP

Wow. Where did spring go? It went from cool to hot in a matter of days it seems. This summer there are plenty of activities for kids. Check out the YMCA for great summertime camps and programs. For the first time in many years, Enid will have an extended basketball camp June 14-17. NOC coach Greg Shamburg and I will conduct a camp for ages 8-18 on the campus of NOC-Enid. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the Mabee Center. For more information, please call 580-548-2348. This camp is designed to build a foundation in fundamentals and a grass roots approach to basketball. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt. This is just one of many opportunities to get your kids active this summer. I encourage you to find something to get your kids up off the couch and out the door to a h e a l t h i e r Brent Price lifestyle.

GREAT TIME

FOR FRESH PRODUCE One of the best things about summer is the fresh produce that becomes more available. Eating well-balanced meals is an essential part of taking better care of yourself. Eating well is one of life’s greatest pleasures. If you learn to eat well-balanced meals in the correct amounts and stay fit, it will help you with your challenge to maintain a healthy weight. Fruits and vegetables ar epacked with beneficial fibers, vitamins and antioxidants. They fill your stomch fast so you can feel full earlier and they are also in calories. Green vegetables such as kale, chard, collard greens, bok choy, broccoli, asparagus, green beans, etc... are packed with vitamins A and C, iron, calcium and phytonutrients. They are very filling, high in fiber and low in calories. As for fruits, berries are loaded with Vitamin C, folate, fiber and phytonutrients. Indeed, fresh berries are some of the most powerful disease-fighting foods available as they top the ORAC score chart (a method of measuring antioxidant activity). Berries are easy to prepare - just wash and rinse - no need to peel at all!
