Cover Feature Exciting New Experiences Are Coming in 2018 to Walt Disney World Resort... 2017 was a busy year for Walt Disney World Resort, with several restaurant and retail openings at Disney Springs, including the all new much-anticipated Planet Hollywood Observatory. Perhaps the biggest and most long-awaited new attraction in the parks opened at Animal Kingdom – Pandora: The World of Avatar. This year promises to be just as exciting, beginning with all-new attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Opening in the summer, Toy Story Land is a new 11-acre area of the park that promises to transport guests into the adventurous outdoors of Andy’s backyard. Guests can experience two new attractions, including a family-friendly roller coaster on the back of Slinky Dog, and an aliens saucer attraction. Toy Story Mania! will add a third track to the existing popular attraction. Also this year, ESPN Wide World of Sports will open a new multi-use sports and entertainment venue that can seat more than 8,000 guests and will have the ability to host six regulation basketball courts, six regulation volleyball courts or multiple concert configurations. There will be concessions throughout the building, and an additional box office and entry into the complex. And there’s even more to look forward to in 2019 and beyond! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was announced to open in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with Concept only. © Disney a Star Wars-themed resort hotel to follow. Shanghai Disneyland’s highest-rated attraction is coming to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. A thrilling Tron-themed attraction based on the popular movie franchise, will be added in a new area near Space Mountain. EPCOT has several new plans in place for the next few years. Patterned after the number one family attraction at Disneyland Paris, Ratatouille will bow in an all-new space at the France pavilion. Epcot will also welcome a new E-ticket attraction based on the rockin’ world of Guardians of the Galaxy – versioned to an Epcot story. Green Mission at Mission: SPACE will treat guests to a stunning tour around the Earth and an updated Orange Mission will make the trip to Mars even more spectacular. See the Real Thing Up Close at Skeletons: Museum of Osteology Of the many who visit the new 400-foot observation wheel – the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye – on International Drive, some never realize that Orlando’s most unique museum is located just under that wheel!

Skeletons: Museum of Osteology is a venue filled with over 500 different animal skeletons from all seven continents. These skeletons include rhinos, manatees, primates, birds, marine life, reptiles, marsupials, fish and a massive 14 foot elephant! One section is devoted to uniquely Floridian animals; another has a farm animal display. There is also a small selection of human skeletons. There are natural mutations, like a two-headed calf skeleton. The 7,700 square foot attraction should take 60-90 minutes for people to see the entire collection. A retail shop filled with unique gifts is part of the attraction. Skeletons: Museum of Osteology is the fourth attraction of the new I-Drive 360 Complex. With the new Coca-Cola Orlando Eye, Madame Tussaud’s and SEA LIFE Aquarium, the exhibit offers visitors to International Drive an experience that is educational, entertaining and engaging. Watch a SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket Launch... Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex guests can experience the stunning sights and powerful sounds of a launch of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, with two exclusive launch viewing locations from which to choose. The most powerful rocket this generation has ever seen, SpaceX’s new Falcon Heavy rocket, launches no earlier than January. Kennedy Space Center’s historic launch pad 39A has not supported this much thrust since the last Saturn V rocket nearly 45 years ago. The Falcon Heavy can lift over double the payload, or cargo, as the next closest rocket, as it is designed for potential human spaceflight—perhaps back to the Moon or even Mars in the future. To put it in perspective, the rocket’s first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores, totaling 27 Merlin engines. Additionally, the second stage’s engine can be restarted many times, making multiple orbits possible. Currently, this launch is targeted for no earlier than (NET) January 2018, with a date and time TBA. SpaceX is attempting to land all three first stages of the rocket: two on land at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and one on the droneship, Of Course I Still Love You, in the Atlantic Ocean. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers the closest public viewing of launches with the purchase of a launch transportation/viewing ticket. Availability of viewing opportunities and locations is dependent upon the scheduled launch time and is subject to NASA and U.S. Air Force approval. To date, no official details have been released surrounding this launch. Launch dates, times and viewing locations are subject to change.
