Enjoy the journey

From the age of 13 our family dinners were often enhanced by candlelight; the mesmerising ambience inspiring a lifelong passion. This love affair continued, and in 1998, when I married David, our wedding was lit by an abundance of real candles burning. Keeping these as a memento of a magical night, they have never been re-lit since, forever capturing a moment in time. In December 2009, an associate from the USA, who was looking for a distributor for his brand Enjoy Lighting, sent us some samples of real wax, flameless candles. I remember thinking ‘batteries up the bum of a candle… could never be as good as the real thing’.

As we had stopped using real candles when our son was born out of concern for his safety, I was keen to try them out. That first evening, we placed a couple of the flameless candles on our mantelpiece and set the timer to 6 hours. Many times throughout the evening, the gentle flickering of candlelight caught the corner of my eye, and I couldn’t help thinking how they looked like real candles burning. Later that night I walked towards them to blow them out, and stopped in my tracks when I realised what I was doing. The very next night when I once again went to blow them out, I recognised they were truly something special. Soon after, we became the Australasian distributor. I’ve often thought it would have been so wonderful to have had these candles when we got married, as we could have continued using them night after night, fondly recalling memories of our wedding. And those midnight feeds could have been so much more nurturing and relaxing if only by candlelight, flameless of course...

In 2010, just a year later, we ended up owning the company, and commencing our manufacturing journey, now selling more than a million candles worldwide. In 2020, with Covid momentarily stopped us in our tracks, we took the opportunity to rebrand and step on the world stage as Enjoy Living, expanding into homewares and furniture.

As we continue to embrace our love and passion for interiors, our growing curation of Danish designed beautiful and functional bathroom, kitchen, living, and furniture pieces are showcased in an additional catalogue, EKTA Living | 2023 – 2024 | Issue 1.
