1. Pangloss Lab: the open innovation laboratory for Greater Geneva Description: Pangloss Labs is composed of two non-profit associations; one located in France and one in Geneva, Switzerland. Both were founded in 2014 with the aim to create experimental laboratories, and to prototype activities across various sectors, called Pangloss Labs. At PanglossLab third-spaces and eco-fablabs are created and animated to support the development of local entrepreneurial activities. Visit to the FabLab where participants try out the equipment to understand the work of a FabLab. 2. SDG solution space Description: The Solution Space is located in the Innovation Park building at the Biotech campus in Geneva. The Biotech campus is a joint initiative with a vision to “ensure that the Lake Geneva region and Switzerland as a whole remains at the cutting edge in the fields of biotechnology and life science research” Activity at the Local Visit: SDG Solution space visit is linked with the PanglossLab visit. 3. Idea Square – CERN Description: IdeaSquare is a dedicated test facility at CERN that hosts detector R&D projects, and facilitates MSc student programs. Located in a technical hall (B3179) next to the Globe of Science and Innovation, it offers rapid prototyping facilities for innovation-related projects. It brings together CERN personnel, visiting students, and external project collaborators from the domains of research, technology development and education. The purpose of IdeaSquare is to bring together people to generate new ideas and work on conceptual prototypes in an open environment, and contribute to KT Group activities in helping to shape and improve them further, towards socially and globally relevant new product ideas and innovation. IdeaSquare is an experiment itself, as it explores new ways to demonstrate the value of basic research. It aims at delivering innovation to society at a marginal cost, the activities being covered outside the CERN annual budget. Activity at the Local Visit: The local visit is divided on two parts. In the first part from 15.30 – 17.00, the visitors participate in a co-creation workshop on the premises of Idea Square. In the second part of the visit, from 17.00 the visitors are taken on a tour of CERN, to ATLAS experiment - one of the four major experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. 4. Hospital of Geneva Description: HUG was created in 1995, and is part of a tradition of excellence in medicine and science dating back hundreds of years. The group brings together eight Geneva public hospitals and 40 outpatient units throughout the canton of Geneva, and together they form the leading Swiss University Hospital HUG’s geographical location predisposes to openness and contributes to Geneva's international outlook. 5. ICRC - Red Cross
Description: The ICRC is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and at the same time promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law. ICRC and Sustainable Development: Looking into the future, sustainable development is a fundamental guiding principle for how ICRC delivers aid to victims of armed conflict and other violence. The health and well-being of our beneficiaries and local communities in countries in which they operate is intrinsically linked to the state of the natural environment. During the local visit, the participants will see three separate areas of the ICRC exhibition, each developed by a well-known exhibition architect from a different cultural background, allowing you to explore three major challenges in today’s world : Defending Human Dignity (Gringo Cardia, Brazil), Restoring Family Links (Diébédo Francis Kéré, Burkina Faso), Reducing Natural Risks (Shigeru Ban, Japan). 6. Impact Hub
Description: Impact Hub is an ecosystem of collaborators focused on prototyping the future of society. Impact Hub Geneva is the working space for individuals committed to creating a better world. The visitors will have a closer look at the Sustainable Living Lab of Impact Hub. Sustainable Living Lab is a pioneering initiative supported by the Fonds Engagement Migros and catalysed by Impact Hub Geneva & Lausanne. Vision of the Living Lab is a world in which business, government and civil society openly collaborate in order to support concrete initiatives that solve the most important challenges of our time by taking action locally. They create spaces for collaborative practices and transformative learning. Using tools such as systems mapping, design thinking and Theory-U to facilitate awareness-based collective action. More specifically, the labs have focused on halving food waste in Lausanne by 2030, teaching practical skills for sustainable living and facilitating circular economy transformation in the MĂŠtropole LĂŠmanique.
