The Ecuadorian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Guayaquil with the collaboration of the Consulate of Canada in Guayaquil, presents, “VANCOUVER: VISION OF A GREEN CITY,” a one day conference that will explore the theme of sustainability and what it means for businesses, governments, universities, and the public with the perspective of Canadian experts and business leaders who are leading the initiative for Vancouver to become the Greenest City by 2020. Recognizing that sustainable development and change doesn't just come from the government or the business community, we are inviting business leaders, university students, government officials, and the public to join us for this event. We have invited a broad range of experts and business leaders from Vancouver, Canada that represent green entrepreneurship, green building, renewable energy, sustainable tourism, education in sustainable management, and the public sector.

ANNOUNCEMENTS ADVERTISMENT OPPORTUNITIES OUR MAGAZINE - CONEXIONES We are pleased to announce that the 3rd edition of our semi -annual magazine, Conexiones, will be released this September. The theme of this edition will be “Trade” and with 3,000 copies produced semi-annually, this publication, will be distributed to our members, and networks that represent a diverse group of industries across Ecuador and Canada. Furthermore, Conexiones will be distributed at our events, including trade fairs that we attend in Canada. You can see the latest edition of Conexiones online on our website. We are currently announcing a last call for advertisements for this upcoming edition.
2011 LATIN AMERICA EDUCATION INITIATIVES TOUR The CCECG will be hosting this education tour with 20 Canadian Universities, planned by The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), when they come to Guayaquil on November 8th . For this event we will be creating a magazine for Ecuadorian students interested in studying in Canada that will have profiles of all the universities that are taking part in this tour. With the Ministry of Culture of Ecuador, The Cultural Direction of Guayaquil, the Embassy of Canada, and the Honorary Consul of Canada in Guayaquil, we celebrated Canada Day en the MAAC theatre. We started the night with a cocktail in which we had the pleasure of welcoming the Vice-consul of Canada, Mr. Ryan Kuffner, the Honorary Consul of Canada in Guayaquil, Mr. Basil Haylock, representatives of the Board of Consulates, and members of the CCECG. As this is the last month Mr. Ryan Kuffner will be serving at the Embassy in Ecuador as Vice-Consul, the CCECG recognized him for the hard work and dedication that he has shown through his time here since 2008. The Cocktail and speeches were followed by awards from our sponsors, and the musical presentation from the Canadian Group, Cowboy Celtic. The evening was a great success— thanks to our sponsors and everyone who joined us to celebrate this special day! PAST EVENTS DAVIS CUP—CANADA VS ECUADOR Friday, July 8th—Sunday, July 10th, 2011 In the Guayaquil Tennis Club, Ecuador won both of the first two singles matches against Canada in the Americas Zone Group 1 of the Davis Cup on Friday, July 8th, to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five competition. However, Canada rebounded, tying the competition, with a win in the next day’s doubles match, followed by two straight-sets wins on Sunday's reverse doubles to win the competition. First, Vasek Pospisil from Canada, was defeated by Ivan Endara 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 in the singles opener at the Guayaquil Tennis Club, while Vancouver’s Philip Bester fell to Ecuador’s Julio-Cesar Campozano 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-2. The next day, in doubles, Pospisil and doubles veteran Daniel Nestor, kept Canada’s hopes alive as they defeated the doubles team of Roberto Quiroz and Emilio Gomez. Finally, Pospisil and Bester both won their singles matches on Sunday, winning the competition for Canada. It was the first time in Canada’s Davis Cup history that they had been down 0-2 and made a comeback.
COACHING WORKSHOP Friday, July 15th, 2011 In the Hotel Courtyard Marriot, the workshop “Coaching for Change” took place. This workshop explored what coaching is and how to apply the method on a personal, organizational, and social level. The event was led by Miriam Rojas, a consultant and coach for communication and organizational change.
