INTRODUCTION.

Hello. This is my work. The evidence of what I have studied and learned during this school year with my teacher Elena Delgado. In this work, there are eight compositions, about different topics that, in class, I have reviewed.

 The first one is a profile. I wrote about my older brother. I wrote about his occupations and activities. You will be able to read it later.  The second composition is a description of my favorite restaurant in Mexico City (where I’m living).

 The number three is a review of my favorite thriller, a famous book of an American author. Check it.  In number four I wrote an email and a reply for it, How to contact a colleague.

 In the fifth composition, I learned how to write a reply to an advertisement for volunteers to help an international event and request information.

 In the sixth and seventh compositions I learned how to write an essay, making an investigation before. I learned some vocabulary and how to separate in paragraphs writing advantages and disadvantages.  In the eighth and ninth compositions I wrote essays about time and money using my own knowledge and my opinions.

 In the tenth and eleventh compositions I made two descriptions. In the first one I described the city for a friend and in the second one I describing my town.

Was funny write every composition, I hope you enjoy my work!

LEARNING REFLECTION.

Writing is an excellent technique to learning English. Grammar, vocabulary, everything gets better with writing and with oral practicing is easier to learn other languages.

Write these compositions make me feel so good with me, because I used all I know and the new what I learned. Write also made me feel nervous, to practice with new vocabulary and new grammatical forms.

1. PROFILE. I'm going to describe you a person that I admire so much. He is a Spanish singer; he was born in Zaragoza at 1967. He was in a very famous Spanish rock band called 'HĂŠroes del Silencio'. This band had great succes but they separated in 1996. His artistic last name comes from a character of 'The importance of Being Earnest' by Oscar Wilde. With his albums 'PequeĂąo' and 'Flamingos' he recovered the fame that he had with his former band. Some of my favorite songs are 'Lady blue', 'Alicia' and 'Infinito'. At present, he's promoting his last album. Do you have any idea who is he?

2. DESCRIBING MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m going to tell about my favorite restaurant: Sanborns restaurant. This place has a beautiful ambience, they have good service and the food is always wonderful. I love the breakfast! they have a buffet system that consists in a style of food for everyday. For example, Monday they can serve typical Mexican food, with quesadillas, sopes, enchiladas, etc but Tuesday can be Chinese food, Thursday French food and all with fresh and organic ingredients. You can choose as much food as you can eat! They also have a menu that includes dishes from different countries of the world. All dishes are very healthy; they use premium ingredients (for lunch and dinner too) and they grow them in their own farms. All dishes come with a glass of juice, a cup of coffee or some fruit, if is breakfast; or a dessert and soup if is lunch or dinner. This restaurant is great! 8

3. REVIEW OF MY FAVORITE BOOK.

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

This is the story of Robert Langdon, a Harvardâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s teacher of religious symbols that is inside of a gripping thriller. The novel is set in the Vatican City and part of Rome. The pope has died, four important 9

cardinals have been kidnapped and an old society foe of church, the Illuminaties, threatens to destroy the religion with an important discovery of science. With the help of Vittoria, a scientist of the CERN in Switzerland, he will try to find the answers of this mystery...

4. E-MAIL AND REPLY. > Hello. I’m just writing to tell you that I hope to be in town at 10:00 am, more or less. I will arrive by train from Mexico city. I’m looking forward to starting this new job. I want to be on time, so I will take a taxi to conference center. Will I meet Anna at reception desk? 10:30? Please give me her mobile number, mine is 5560991690. 5. THE ADVERTISEMENT.

Dear Mr. Ellis,

I’m getting in touch about the advertisement for volunteers to help at the international sporting event in July. I’m 21 years old and I’m very interested in participating in this major event. I like meeting people and I’m very friendly. I’ve been a volunteer in some 12

events at high school and Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve gone to other countries to learn languages. My English and my Spanish are good and I think that my French is enough for the job. I hope that you can send me more information about where and when this event will be. Yours, Enrique.

6. MOBILE PHONES. Nowadays many people use these technologic gadgets that have changed the way we are in contact. Using mobile phones has many advantages. First of all, you can contact people from anywhere. In addition you can make thousand different things with mobile apps as taking photos, playing music or using internet. However, there are also certain disadvantages in the use of these gadgets. Some phones aren't very cheap. Secondly actually many people are more sedentary thanks to technology like these. And lastly, their use in 'bad situations' may cause accidents.

In conclusion; the disadvantages of mobile phones depend on their correct use. I think that they are very useful.

7. FLUORESCENT LAMPS. In recent years, carbon pollution has increased. Many human activities cause this problem, but the principal factor is the electricity generation. The use of bulbs (incandescent lamps) is the most common problem in homes, but we can change our bulbs for the new fluorescent lamps! Using this kind of lamps has many advantages: first of all, these lamps donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t produce heat, so the climate in rooms will be fresh. Secondly, these lamps use less energy to operate. And finally, they can continue operating for many years! 15

However, there are also certain disadvantages in using these lamps. They can become very expensive, around 60 pesos each one. In addition they cannot be used anywhere, for example: they can’t be near humid places or they can’t be used with any switch. In conclusion, the fluorescent lamps bring more benefits to our lives. I think that, comparing to disadvantages, the advantages of these lamps are for more the planet.

8. WE HAVE MORE FREE TIME THAN EVER BEFORE. It is certainly true that we have more free time than our grandparents did. Before, people had to work from sunrise to sunset and they used to work the land. They also had to do many things for themselves, like wash clothes and makes food from basic ingredients. Nowadays we have technologies that help us do these activities, so we have more free time! The disadvantage is that many people spend their time watching TV or navigating on internet. I personally believe that it is a waste of time, we should spend our free time in outdoor activities, doing exercise or spending time with family. There are many other things we could do. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s my opinion.

9. THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. People work to earn money, money buys things, so people need money! Nowadays, we live in a "material world", where the consumerism and fashion causes a lot of people spend their money on things that they don't usually need and people do anything to get money, because in the capitalism order, money is power! I personally believe that world has forgotten what really is important. Ambition has caused that everything goes around the money. Some people have killed, stolen, cheated and deceived to get money, just because they thing it is the most important. We should learn how to spend our money, and enjoy things that are really important, just like seeing our friends or family or other things that are free... These are the best! 19

10. RECOMMENDING TO A FRIEND. I know that you want to come to city. I’m so glad you’re coming to stay here soon, so I’ll give you some ideas to enjoy your visit to Mexico City! Let me tell you that you need much money, because there are many shops, restaurants and bars in some towns in the capital. 20

La Zona Rosa is a modern town in the centre of the city. You can go to a crazy party in there. Another area is Coyoacan. It is a historical town in the south of the city where you can go for a day trip. Another place is Chapultepec, it is a large park where you can enjoy nature. It is in the west of the city and there’s a castle. Iztapalapa is where I live, it is not as wonderful as other places but it’s a peaceful town. Anyway, that’s all for now. 11. DESCRIBING MY HOME. Hi Fernando. I hope you are well and I’m looking forward to seeing you next friday. I know that my town will suit you! I’m going to tell you about it. It is called Iztapalapa, it is a large town in the southeast of Mexico city, It contains the most part of the inhabitants of the city, so… as we have told, it is not a small town! There aren’t many attractions in there, but I think that it is a beautiful place for living. There are cinemas, markets, parks and a lot of shops.

The worst thing about Iztapalapa is that there’s a lot of crime but where I live is a bit quiet. Well, that’s all for now, I will see you soon Fer! Enrique.

CONCLUSIONS.

After a year of work, I think thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s still much to learn. There is much to read, so much to talk about, much to practice, even. Unfortunately school hours were not enough to keep exploring, but there is still much time in life to keep learning. Every composition was a piece of something new, something that was worth remembering. I just hope I remember these lessons forever and that always there will be a good teacher, as the teacher Elena, for guiding me ď &#x160;
