Setting the stage
An exhilarating season awaits!
Welcome to Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati's exhilarating 2011-2012 season and to our 26th year of producing the best contemporary theatre in historic Over-the-Rhine! As a patron, you are helping to create the future of the American theatre and of our city. As Cincinnati's home for premiere productions, we are very pleased to bring you some of the best and highly anticipated new titles during the 2011-2012 season. From a family struggling with mental illness in the electrifying Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award速winning Next to Normal to an unlikely Civil War-era Jewish Confederate family who raised their slaves in their religious tradition in The Whipping Man, in each of the season's shows, characters try to define a new sense of family. We are also thrilled to produce the world premiere of Snow White, which marks the eighth collaboration between perennial favorites Joseph McDonough and David Kisor. On a lighter note, we will conclude the season with the effervescent Life Could Be A Dream, from the creator of the sold-out hit The Marvelous Wonderettes, where this time the boys get a chance to sing some of the best hits from the 1960s. This season promises something for everyone who yearns to travel unique roads and experience bold perspectives. Passion for excellence and a determination to reinvent remains our mantra, but rest assured you make it all possible. You make our Ensemble strong for today and tomorrow. I invite you to experience Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati and all that makes us a remarkable destination. I look forward to seeing you this season. Sincerely,
D. Lynn Meyers Producing Artistic Director

“A brave, breathtaking musical … It is much more than a feel-good musical; it is a feel-everything musical.” —New York Times “Grade: A. Agonizingly beautiful.” —Entertainment Weekly
Regional Premiere. The Goodmans look like a perfect family. But,
sometimes mom Diana seems, well … a little too happy. Her husband worries all the time. Her daughter seems awfully intent on leaving home. And her son, well…that’s another story entirely. Featuring a compelling and surging pop rock score, this groundbreaking musical shatters through the façade of a suburban family dealing with the direct and indirect effects of mental illness. Winner of 3 Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
