Say Yes to Mexico

By Barbara Ramsay Orr

Mexico is a popular locale for North American destination weddings, and for good reasons. Mexico is relatively easily reached by wedding guests, with multiple flights from North American airports to Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos. Gorgeous beaches serve as wedding backdrops, dependable warm weather, and a large number of resorts specializing in wedding packages make Mexico an ideal place for a tropical wedding. Weddings in Cancun and Riviera Maya, on the Caribbean side of Mexico, are easy to plan because of the all-inclusive wedding packages offered by many local resorts. Expect beach views, gourmet dining options, and luxury accommodations. It’s also possible to have a non-religious Mayan ceremony with a local shaman who will come to your resort. Your destination wedding specialist will help you tap into local services that include an on-site coordinator, welcome cocktail parties, rehearsal dinners, ceremony, and reception.

In Riviera Maya expect many options for wedding styles, including beachside palapas for the ceremony instead of a wedding on the sand. Wedding guests can enjoy day trips to Mayan ruins as well as days on the beach. On the Pacific Coast, Los Cabos is known for its high-end luxury options, making it an ideal place for a romantic luxe wedding. Los Cabos is famed for being a celebrity destination – many have also married here, including singer Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo who said their vows in a private affair at the elegant farm-to-table restaurant, Flora Farms. With the desert on one side, and the ocean on the other with perfect views of the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, wedding photos will radiate tropical romance. With stretches of white sand and clear water along the Bay of Banderas, Puerto Vallarta’s beaches are perfect for a destination wedding ceremony. Puerto Vallarta is a unique city with the contemporary hotels and resorts of Nuevo Vallarta and Punta Mita contrasting with the traditional Mexican charm of its Old Town.
