What's New and Noteworthy in Suites & Staterooms
By Jessica Huras
Raffles Raises the Bar in Boston
Boston-bound travelers have a swish new accommodation choice with the recent opening of Raffles. Known for its refined style and attentive service, the high-end hotel group’s first North American property takes luxury to the next level with butler service, a spa developed with Parisian beauty brand Guerlain and 147 guest rooms and suites featuring Garnier-Thiebaut linens and marble bathrooms.
Accessorize Your Stay
Get ready to play dress-up on your next getaway, thanks to a collab from Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and women’s retailer Anthropologie. At 20 participating hotels across the U.S., you can now borrow Anthropologie accessories — a flashy resin chain belt, perhaps, or a sophisticated emerald satchel — for free during your stay. And after taking the items for a spin in your suite (and beyond), purchase anything you want to keep.
Art at Your Door
Step out of your suite and into an interactive gallery: Viceroy Hotels & Resorts’ artist series, A Canvas for Discovery, has partnered with an augmentedreality platform to bring art to life via guests’ smartphones. In St. Lucia, the Audio Art Tour lets you learn the stories behind the resort’s more than 180 modern works by the likes of Warhol and Banksy, while in Santa Monica, Priscilla C. Witte’s pool illustration is animated with motion and audio.
Come on Barbie, Let’s Go to Montreal
Montreal’s Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth and Mattel are giving travelers a glimpse of plastic-fantastic life in the Barbie world. From now until September 2024, book a stay in the whimsical Barbie Dream Suite, which includes a swing set, vintage dolls, a disco ball and plenty of pink. Hotel experiences have also received the Barbie treatment, including feature cocktails at bar Nacarat — try the Pink Dreams, with vodka, raspberry syrup and coconut.
Bring the Whole Family Aboard
Explora Journeys is making it easy for travelers to set sail with multiple generations in tow. On Explora I (now sailing) and Explora II (launching next year), 78 connecting suites keep family members close — and come with pint-sized amenities for little travelers, like bathrobes — while Nautilus Club provides kidfriendly entertainment, from video games to dedicated pool time and art sessions.
A Michelin-Star Chef at Sea
Guests in Cunard’s Grill Suites can look forward to dishes from a Michelin-starred chef when they board the cruise liner’s newest ship, Queen Anne, setting sail in 2024. Chef Michel Roux, who earned two stars for his London restaurant Le Gavroche, is creating a new Gala Evening menu for the fine-dining restaurant Queens Grill, which is exclusive to Grill Suite guests.
