Road Rules.

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac? George Carlin

Not too fast We want you to really enjoy the ride, which means making sure you avoid traffic tickets (and any of those pesky administration fees). Unfortunately, there is only one way around those. You guessed it. You have to pay attention to the speed limit. So, before you get on your way… Let us introduce you to the Dutch traffic police. They just love to use all kinds of speed cameras (Dutch word to be seen on the road: TRAJECT CONTROLE). They set speed traps, and even lurk about in unmarked vehicles. Not to worry, though. We won’t let them get you.

But wait, there’s more... >

Just follow these easy guidelines: • Our highways are called ‘snelweg’. Top speed is usually 120 or 100 km/h (where marked). • On our main roads or ‘autoweg’ the speed limit is 100 km/h. • Within city limits go no faster than 50 km/h. • On all other roads 80 km/h is typically the speed limit (except where marked). Newsflash: take extra special care on the A2 and A4. That’s where traffic police goes all out (and you shouldn’t). They actually check your average speed across the entire 20 kilometer section of highway. And yes, they do charge accordingly. So, take it easy between Amsterdam and Utrecht, and between Schiphol airport and Leiden.

Put it in park Of course, we also want you to enjoy the rest of your trip. That’s why we recommend parking in a parking garage. They’re safe and usually conveniently located. If you do need to park on the street, please remember to check for parking meters. It’s likely you’ll have to purchase a parking ticket. In some cities parking meters only accept chip cards. In Amsterdam you’ll need to enter your license plate number. The authorities will simply scan it to see if you’ve paid. And while we’re on the subject: Amsterdam is just like any other major city. Don’t leave any valuables in the car. Ever.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said ‘Parking Fine’. Tommy Cooper, Comedian

Look ma: no hands If you are anything like us, you’re connected all the time. But we don’t want you to connect with a tree, a truck or a freight train. Or run into another hefty fine. That’s why we advise you not to tweet, mail or text while you drive. In some cars we do have Bluetooth, though, so you can easily connect your phone to the car.

It’s always better to stay behind a police car. Taxi Driver

Accidents happen Most of all we want you to be safe. And if you do get into a fender bender, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. All you have to do is make sure you’re okay. And follow these guidelines: • If there is any kind of damage to or from a third party: please, fill out the complete European Damage Form (front and back page). You will find it in the glove compartment. • You and the third party then have to sign the form. • If there is any sort of disagreement always call the police (0900-8844). • Please bear in mind that if you don’t fill out the complete European Damage Form, we have no other choice but to hold you liable for the damage. If you have any other kind of damage please call our customer service number (+31207400950). We’ll help you fill out the Internal Damage Form.

Thank you for choosing Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Enjoy the ride.
