Optometry is a healthcare profession concerned with the eyes and related structures, as well as vision, visual systems, and vision information processing in humans. Optometrists are trained to prescribe and fit lenses to improve vision, and in some countries are trained to diagnose and treat various eye diseases.


Eligibility

To pursue a Diploma or B.Sc. course in Optometry one needs a background in Science in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology or Mathematics. Selection criteria may vary among institutes, who may also conduct their own entrance examinations. Post-graduate diplomas in Optometry require a graduate degree from any subject – though a science background definitely gives an advantage. Master and M.Phil programs require a completed Bachelor degree and Master degree in optometry respectively.
