2012-13 EnvironMentors Program Year Successes Talking Points for School Staff and Teachers
EnvironMentors (EM) mission is to mentor and motivate high school students who are underrepresented in the sciences as they plan and conduct environmental research and acquire skills that will allow them to build careers and become more active stewards of their communities and the environment. Student Achievements •
Over 117 students completed the EnvironMentors program at our twelve chapters during the 201112 academic year.

The average student score at the National Fair was 86%, up 5 points from 2011.
•
33 students competed in the National Fair in Washington, DC in May 2012.
•
At the 2012 National Fair 11 students were awarded college scholarship worth a total of $15,750.
•
Many graduating seniors will attend college and pursue environmentally-related degrees, including: Alabama State University, Biology (pre-veterinarian) North Carolina State University, Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management Trinity Washington University, Biochemistry University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Biochemistry University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Animal Science Wentworth Institute of Technology, Mechanical Engineering
Students Gain •

College Preparedness •
Students are introduced to environmental degree programs and professional career opportunities by chapter staff, mentors, and guest speakers

Students have the opportunity to complete for college scholarships at the National Fair

Students are further supported by partnering college access programs such as MESA First Nation, Gear Up, and Upward Bound
