Activity Description Have students work on the worksheet individually, then discuss the results as a class. Possible answers are included below. Extension Activity You can also ask students to prepare and give a short presentation to help them improve and practice their presentation skills. Videoing the presentation is a great way for students to get feedback on what they do while speaking in public, as they can see how others see them. Possible answers to the worksheet What you need to think about as preparation the night before: • Hygiene (personal and clothing) • Preparedness • Attitude • Speech What you need to think about as preparation on the day: • What’s the first thing you will need to do when you wake up? • What will you wear? • What materials should you have? • What kind of attitude do you want to present? • How do you speak? Body language • Maintain visual stimulation • Be aware of your posture and how you stand • Consider your eye contact


Use of voice • Express your enthusiasm, instead of speaking in a monotones • Speak loudly and clearly • Choose good words! An average public speaker is: • Not prepared • Not clear • Lacks confidence • Tries to be somebody they’re not • Uses inappropriate language • Manages the time badly A GREAT public speaker is: • Self confident • Well prepared • Speaks clearly • Easy to understand • True to themselves but mindful of others • Sticks to the time limit • Is comfortable using silence • Uses the space well
