There is a lot of material to cover in this workshop. If possible break it into two workshops and give participants things like draught seal tapes and a caulking gun for blocking draughts, to try in between workshops. The information booklet contains information on items with which you might not already be familiar with. Check to see if there is an environment shop, neighbourhood house or library that lends energy meters or think about buying one and lending it to your participants. You can use them how much energy each appliance in your home uses. Before running the workshop, update the Energy and Climate booklet (provided online with this package) and the workshop plan above.


Materials Needed • PowerPoint presentation – on memory stick and in hard copy as a back up • Laptop computer with PowerPoint software installed, projector and screen (or light coloured wall) • Extension cord and power board or double adaptor • White board and markers • Camera and media consent forms (if you would like to take pictures of the workshop) • Tea/herbal tea/coffee/milk/sugar/biscuits • Raffle tickets and tub (if holding a raffle) • Three prizes (e.g. weather stripping packs) – one prize for an activity and two prizes for raffle • Energy Bingo cards (available online with this resource) • (Optional but recommended) Props such as low energy lights, weather seals, insulation for hot water pipes and a low flow showerhead Specific Items – allocate 1 per person • Pens • Energy and Climate Eco‐Wise Action booklets, printed on recycled paper • Energy pledge sheets – these are in the booklets, but you may want to get participants to also record their pledges on a handout, so you can compile them • Flyers promoting the next workshop • If possible, purchase a household energy thermometer for each participant. These have markings showing ideal fridge, freezer, winter heating, summer cooling and hot water temperatures. At the time of writing, these cost under $10 each.
