Hi, my name is Erin. I like long walks on warm summer nights and enjoy quiet moments, cuddled up with a good book and a warm cup of tea. Ya. Like that ever happens. Seriously - enough time for tea and a book? - just about never. So, instead I settle for lots and lots of coffee, chaotic day-today activities, a little yoga, lots of chocolate, family-love and picture taking. My most favourite activity in the world is trying to capture someone’s true spirit through the lens of my camera.
A journalism degree + an incessant desire to record life frame by frame = the best job ever: chronicling your memories. We take our day-to-day business for granted sometimes, not stopping to acknowledge the moments of bliss we feel when we hear our kids laugh, when we’re greeted by wildly happy pets, or when our loved ones wrap their arms around us for our daily hug. When seen through the lens of a camera, your everyday chronicles are beyond beautiful. Let me show you.

HOW I SEE lifestyle photography
I know family photography that captures beautiful faces all lined up together and looking directly at the camera is super desirable. But I have always believed that the pictures where all those beautiful faces are standing in a crooked line with one kid screaming, another laughing, one being ‘too-cool’ and two frantic looking parents are just as good. Seriously. Because real is awesome. You’re going to look at those photos two months from now and laugh your tail off thinking about what a gong show your life is – (I say this because every time I look back on any one of our family photos I think, “that was such a gong show.”) But let’s face it – if it wasn’t for that constantly-ringing gong, the music in our lives wouldn’t be as sweet. It happens all the time when I arrive to do a session and the parents are already a little worried because the kids PAGE 4
are totally not into the idea of smiling and sitting still. My response is always, “we’ll just work around them.” Because I love the chaos. Chaos is beautiful. It’s youth, it’s joy – it’s a happy life. Last summer while I was jumping on the trampoline with my two children I was completely overcome with the desire to crisply stamp the moment on the part of my brain that will let me relive it time and time again. The kids were giggling so hard they were panting for breath, their arms were hooked around each other and they were the happiest they had ever been. “This,” I thought. “I want to feel THIS. Forever.” It is precisely that kind of moment that I am going to try to capture for you. I want to be able to give you the type of pictures that when you look back at the images of your chaotic little life, you’ll smile and think, “This. I’m so happy I get to feel THIS forever.”

Journalistic shooting that mixes both playful and directed posing will help create a beautiful visual story that works perfect for photo-block framing on your walls or coffee table books. It’s important to remember that your children feel your stress - so relax. Think about bringing items you know will keep their attention - things like bubbles, butterfly nets, balloons, etc. When picking outfits, keep in mind that patterned clothing tends to ‘dance’ on the photo - simple is definitely safer.

Look inside - and share your discovery. Stylized Self Discover{me} photo sessions are my personal favourite types of work. This is an opportunity for you to look deep inside yourself and decide what it is you want to encapsulate about your identity. I will ask you to start collecting images and ideas of what type of ‘feel’ you want to establish with your Self Discover{me} session.
I might even ask you to create a small storyline so I can pull the pieces of the shoot together in my mind as well as on camera. These sessions typically run about two to three hours, are done on-location and include three outfit changes. Having your hair and makeup professionally done is strongly recommended for these sessions.
