I personally read magazines backwardsmeaning I start form the back and work my way forward. I don’t know why I read them like that; maybe because it is easier for me to hold it like that and turn the page with my right hand. I don’t know, but I do know is that I enjoy them so much. I purchase many different types of magazines that cater to different ethnic groups in America. As a diverse American (does that even exist), I found that no magazine covers who we are. We are diverse woman. We embrace our roots and culture, at the same time celebrating other’s roots and cultures learning from one another, sharing, and supporting each other. We are Motivated. Ambitious. Dedicated. Stylish. Distinguished. Incomparable. In other words The New American Woman. We have found out that many women feel the same. The purpose of this magazine is to first and forth more, to provide you entertainment, make you think, inform you, and relate. Relate to other women that are culturally conscious and strive to achieve greatness in their life living what we call an EPIC Lifestyle as epic women.

Behind the Shoot At just 17 years old Alexis " Dominguez is already a blossoming EPIC woman. While most high school students are taking a break from school during the summer, Alexis is far from it. As if being gorgeous wasn’t enough, between volleyball practices, a demanding Pre Collegiate program at CU Boulder, modeling, and a job Alexis still makes time to spend with her loving and supportive family. Note from The EDITORS We can’t believe it’s already July and half of 2013 is gone. Guess time flies in Colorado when it snows in May. We have been so busy working on the development of EPIC Lifestyle that July exploded like a firecracker on us. This issue was developed with America on our mind. The month of July represents most things we relate with our nation; the 4th of July, red, white, and blue, and baseball. Because of the “Americanism” of July, we decided to release our fist issue of EPIC Lifestyle the magazine for the new American woman this month, as a celebration of the birth of the new EPIC Lifestyle that woman are embracing throughout America. Our so-called “EPIC Woman Revolution” has already taken effect (“The New American Woman” pg. 8) in our emerging generation of young adults. Working with Alexis for the photo shoot has gave us a sense of a won battle (“Alexis Dominguez”, pg. 11). That 17 year old is destined for greatness. We also received some amazing romance advice (“Real Talk: The Dating Deal”, pg. 20) from our friend Aboubacar, who knows the definition of an epic woman and advice will attract you an epic man. Seriously you will need to read his advice. For this issue we had the privilege of getting to know El Cacho a little better (music pg. 27) whose music, clothing line, and music label are all influenced by the epic woman in his life; resulting in non-misogynistic conscious rap, generating a large female fan base.
This month represented a new beginning for our nation and now represents a new beginning, even a revolution, for women who are embracing traditional feminine roles, but charged with strength, ambition, and self-definition of epicenes. This celebration definitely calls for a cocktail- pinky up, on a rooftop, wearing a summery dress with very high heels. am always asked what are you? I quickly respond
American….then the answer is quickly followed by “yeah, but what are you?” I answer smiling, knowing what is coming, “Mexican, my parents are Mexican.” Then I get the wide eyes and “wow, you don’t look Mexican.” Then I ask, “Where did you think I was from?” “Mixed- black and something els….” I answer, “I am, I am mestiza, Asian, Black, Brown, White…. in the United States we all become American. Different colors, different cultures, and even different traditions, but at the end of the day we are all American. We share similar core values and lives. Most of us go to work, dream about having the “American dream”. Even though there still exist a gap between the opportunities different ethnic groups have to reach the “dreams” we all still strive and work hard towards achieving those them. The American woman is no longer a blue eyed white woman, but women from different backgrounds, races, hair texture, body shape, and taste. Just because you belong to a certain group it does not mean you cannot enjoy things traditionally used and enjoyed by other groups. America has come a long way from segregation and the Jim Crow laws. Now we are free to experiment, mix, learn, and most importantly share. Share who we are, what we enjoy, and what makes us- us. This has become the new American woman. "

Alexis Dominguez: Young lady on her path to an EPIC lifestyle. We were very excited to interview and do a photo shoot with Alexis Dominguez, an incoming senior from Frederick Colorado. We choose Alexis for this issue because she is a mirror of an epic new American woman- in this case young lady. Alexis comes from MexicanAmerican parents that raised her in a bicultural and bi-lingual environment like many Americans today. They instilled American values, work ethics, and dreams we are all so familiar with. With these core values Alexis has succeeded in her studies, sports, and image, all while having fun, but staying focused; staying EPIC. This summer Alexis is attending college level classes at the University of Colorado at Boulder through the prestigious Pre-Collegiate program that identifies minority students throughout the state that demonstrate potential, dedication, and of course brains. ! When we heard of Alexis, we knew she was young lady accomplishing a lot at a very young age, so we decided to interview her and learn how she figured out to be EPIC as she discovers the new identity women of different backgrounds through out the country have already began to embrace.

We began by asking “What makes you EPIC? “ and with out a pause Alexis answered, “I try to be a leader and not a follower”- wow we thought, she just defined one of our epic rules. She continued and explained “I don’t do things like others do- it’s wrong. I try to do better then them and not follow, and instead, get ahead of them,” showing her American competitiveness. Again we looked at each other in awe, excited to hear what else she had to say. As she continued the interview, Alexis explained that she stays EPIC by knowing that the choices she makes will influence her future. She went on about how she feels proud when people realize that she is not a follower, and sets the bar higher. We thought, there has to be some obstacles that can be hard to over come, especially at her young age, so we asked. Unlike the first couple of question, Alexis had to think about it showing that very little gets in " "

her way. After she thought about it she explained that she tends to over think things sometimes and begins to think that maybe she cannot do or accomplish what she would like. Then she quickly replaces those thoughts with positive ones. She reflects, analyzes, and created a plan that will get her to accomplish what she doubted she could not do. We quickly saw in her the competitive ambitious attitude that defines the new epic American woman." " After spending a whole Saturday taking her pictures and getting to know Alexis we knew that many women, young and not so young, can learn from her at her young age. We asked her what advice she could give our readers and this is what she says, “Listen to what others say, but at the end of the day you are the one who makes the decisions about your future. The Mid Summer Classic It’s July and Baseball season is in full swing. July and the AllStar game marks the halfway point of the baseball season. But you may ask, what is the AllStars game and the Home Run Derby? The Home-Run Derby is held the Monday before the AllStars Game. It is a competition among the top homerun hitters. The All-Stars game is known as The Mid-Summer classic and normally played on the second Tuesday in July. It’s played against the most popular players from the American League and National League and managed by the league pennant winners of the previous year. Fans cast their votes for who they want to see battle it out. It is definitely an exhibition of the best players form both leagues and to us ladies an exhibition of good looking men in a uniform. The winner of the All-Stars Game, wins home-field advantage for the World Series in October.

Baseball Game Happenings There is no time limit in baseball! There are no quarters or last minute plays. Instead baseball, like a hot summer day is slow and unpredictable. Every game has nine innings and each innings has two parts to it. Each team gets a chance to bat. With that said, the first part of the inning is called the top and the second part of the inning is called the bottom. The visiting team bats in the top of the inning, and the home team bats last- getting a last chance to score if they need to in the bottom of the 9th. So if it is the top of 7th, it means that it is the 7th inning and the visiting team is batting. The home team has home field advantage, meaning that they bat last. There are no time limits in baseball, so stay patient and donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t begin to bug your boo or friends. When out with friends at the club/ bar, how do women know or what are indicators of a guy who is looking for a good time versus a guy who is interested in more? Ladies. There really aren't any indicators that a guy just wants a great time for that night or is interested in more. Meaning when you walk in the club, there's no such thing as, all the guys wearing red are after one night stands and the ones dressed in black just left aunt Sally's funeral, and are devastated that she won't get to meet their future wife they are out looking for at the !9"

Booking shows all along Denver, the west coast, and internationally. El Cacho has influenced and helped many people in his community by encouraging them to follow their dreams. Everywhere he goes he leaves a lasting impression through his passion of music and community involvement. "
What triggered/inspired El Cacho to become a rapper & what do you want people to know about yourself? “Who inspired me was my grandpa. He was always playing the guitar and making notes for a trio he was in. He made me become interested in music and be part of it.” What inspires your music? Do you have a specific audience that you’re most connected to? “The audience is Spanish speaking people. People who support the culture and are proud of their culture. Those who consider themselves Mexican.” Is there any specific genre of music El Cacho & Paisa Movement would consider themselves to be? “Paisa Movement is urban music. It’s reggeaton, tribal, cumbia rap. Regional urban music.” What made them choose that genre of music? “What made me choose the genre was the fact that our movement doesn’t just rap; we make hip-hop, tribal, rap. We mix it up; we aren’t just considered rappers. We have different flavors of music in our group.” Is there any moment in which El Cacho thought was most memorable or had an impact on his success? “The moment that had the most impact on my career, was when I did a show in Juarez with Control Machete. They were one of my idols growing up and I opened up for them in front of more than 3000 people! It is in my hometown so it is the most memorable.” What is your favorite piece of music and why? “My favorite piece of music would be the music I make. The music I make comes straight from the heart. If I don’t listen to my music once a day, I’m not myself. “ How hard was it to make such a big come up & were there any obstacles that you came across? How did you get past this? “It’s a lot of hard work. I made my own label. A lot of record labels didn’t like it. I was doing it by myself as a new artist. As an artist and a manager there’s a lot you need to know. There’s a lot of dedication, hard work and believing in yourself.”

Are there any other artists, books, movies etc. that you would say inspire you or that you would recommend to others & why? “One of the artists that most influenced me was Cypress Hill. They brought the Spanish music to life when no one believed Spanish music would come up. One of the books that motivated me is Once a King Always a King.” When you write new music or prepare for events is there anything that motivates you? What is the process like, from start to finish when you write a new song? “What motivate me when I write my music would be new ideas. I like giving my fans something new to listen to each time, something they wouldn’t expect. I like to write music people can vibe to. The process when I write a song is very specific. I like being in a quiet room, feeling the beat and basically feeling like when I’m preforming. They have some of the best talent. It’s really nice!” What would you say to people or parents who wouldn’t allow their kids to listen to your music? “I would say to them that I make all types of music. Gangster, dance, love, inspirational- all types. It’s not all negative stuff. I hope someone will like at least one song from my album.”

Are there any stereotypes you wish people knew where NOT true about you? How do you deal with people who label/stereotype/assume certain negative things about you? “There are stereotypes and people giving negative feedback. We don’t consider our music ‘Chicano’ music, even though sometimes people label us as ‘Chicano’ music. People usually don’t like the concept of ‘paisas’ rapping. Sometimes labels don’t show love because it’s mostly Spanish music. When we say “Paisa” a lot of people don’t want to associate. We are part of the regional music, you have to learn to work with it. People are always going to talk. It’s the industry.”

What would you define as an EPIC woman? “An EPIC woman would be someone like my sister. She went from being in trouble all the way to becoming a working housewife with a career. Not a lot of females now in days start a career to better themselves. She did a lot to better herself. Making her epic” Is there any female you look up to or admire & why? “My mom and aunt were the ones who raised me. They were both mom and dad. They went through a lot to keep me alive and help me keep moving forward. They are still the ones I can count on.” What advice would you give to your female fans & youth fans? “The advice I would give would be if they want to do something or be someone, anything is possible with a lot of hard work and dedication. It isn’t free. They have to go out and chase it.” Where did Paisa Movement originate and what inspired it to be created? “Paisa Movement was created in 2012. I started my own label after I stopped working with another label. Paisa movement has been a year strong. It originated from culture and pride. We look up to people who don’t give up.” What were a few things the CEO of paisa movement did for the come up of Paisa Movement? “A few things I as the CEO of Paisa Movement did for the come up was going against all odds and naming the label Paisa Movement. The name started a lot of attention and discussion. We booked a lot of our own shows. We always kept it 100% with the culture with the ‘raiz’.”

Turn Up, Turned Ugly! It was a Friday night and we decided to get a table at a popular club downtown. The couple next to us looked like they were celebrating something, both very nicely dress and kissing after every toast. They had bottle service- some type of vodka and pineapple juice. When I saw that, I automatically knew that there turn up was going to turn ugly! People who mix their drink with pineapple juice are not drinkers and need to sweeten or mask the taste, translationthey probably do not know their alcohol tolerance! The couple continued to celebrate and even cheered with us a couple of times. We did our thing at our table and the next time we turned around to check on them, the girl was passed out cold on the couch with throw up down her beautiful dress. Her man sat next to her trying to give her water and wake her up. It was a horrible scene. She looked bad and now her boyfriend had to drag her out. After the club lights came on EVERYONE in that place saw her. #EPICRule Don’t drink too much and learn to handle you liquor!

Big Blonde on Shorty Out with the girls, we hit up a club after a basketball game. It was still early and there were not that many people out, but for some strange reason there were more women out then men. Once the turn up got real, people began to dance. As I was standing by the bar I look out into the dance floor and noticed an extremely tall girl dancing with a short guy. She was backing it up and pushing up on it- well not it, but on his chest! I almost spit out my drink I was laughing so hard! #EPICRule Back it up with caution and give the poor dude a break!
" Ride story After a baseball game it is common for my crew to hit up local bars close to the ball park. After the game one Saturday night we hit the local rooftop bar. Unfortunately, parking is always difficult, so I had to run out and feed the parking meter. Keeping EPIC on my mind, I took off my wedged heel sandals I was wearing for the game and slipped on my high stiletto heels I had in the car. Now walking back to the bar was definitely a challenge after being on my feet for the whole nine innings of the game, so I decided to get a ride somehow. There were many taxis available, but I was not about to pay ten dollars to ride for 5 blocks. I scouted the cars slowly crawling by (game and bar traffic) when a truck rolled by bumping reggaeton- I knew I had my ride! They smiled and gave me the “was up” look and I walked over, like in high school when you’re going to get a number haha. When I approached the guys in the truck and spoke my Caribbean Spanish knowing it would impress them due to their choice of music. I asked them if they could please give me a lift to where I was at. They quickly agreed and I was back on the rooftop sipping on drinks with my pinky up, and enjoying the rest of the night. #EPICRule Be friendly to everyone.
