Obituary
“A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance...” Ecclesiastes 3:4
A Time to be Born.... Sammie “Shane” Kay Richardson-Ratling, as she was affectionately called, was born to the late Jessie Earl and Sammie Jean Richardson on July 3, 1960. She was the oldest of ten children. To know Shane, was to love Shane with her persistent, free-spirited, energetic, fearless, honest, jovial, and joyful personality. Her delightful disposition also characterized her as being spunky, witty, straight-forward, humorous, full of life and boastful delightfully bundled in a dynamic little package. No one could ever say no to her. Though Shane loved children and family, she did not have children of her own but was a strong, fearless protector of her family and was a loving wife to her husband Harry Ratling. A Time to Die... She departed her life on Monday, May 11 at LSU Health Center. A Time to Mourn... She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Richardson; husband, Harry Ratling; three sisters, Janell Richardson, Beverly Ann Mayfield, and Johnetta Richardson; and one brother, Tyrone Richardson. A Time of Peace... Those who will always cherish her sweet memories includes a devoted and loving mother, Sammie Jean Richardson; five sisters, Ulander Tate (Tyrone), Charlesetta Richardson, Donna Richardson-Below (Terry), Michelle Richardson, Erica Richardson; five aunts, Darlene Foster, Beulah Goldsmith, Ruthie Dupree, Ruby Smith, and Dorothy Kurtz; four uncles, Troy Foster, Bobby Richardson, Stacey Richardson, Tommy Richardson and a very special friend Malcolm Michael Cottonham and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
I’m Still Here
I may be gone but please don’t cry, death is not the last goodbye. Death releases me of my pain, there will come a day we will meet again. Don’t be blue and don’t be sad , think back to the fun we had. I am always here I hear you speak in time of trouble it’s me you seek. You don’t see me but I see you, I’ll do my best to pull you through. Speak to me and I will hear. Never far I am always near Be brave my children do not cry, see you again it’s not goodbye John Franked Connor • Copyright ©2008 John Connor
Not how did she die, but how did she live? Not what did she gain, but what did she give? These are the units to measure the worth Of a woman as a woman, regardless of birth. Not, what was her church, nor what was her creed? But had she befriended those really in need? Was she ever ready, with word of good cheer, To bring back a smile, to banish a tear? Your time has come and now me must say. Forever with God in His comfort you’ll stay.
