Bissinger’s Chocolate Bar Created for: Packaging Class Challenge: Redesign an existing chocolate bar

This was one of my favorite projects in packing class with Professor Rusch. He sent us out to our local markets to find the most terribly designed chocolate bars there. We had to present three options to the class and help each other decide which to redesign. Bissinger’s chocolate was chosen for me. The packaging was not really inviting. Upon further research the Bissinger’s chocolate company has been since 1845. I wanted to capture the essence of the history of the company but make the packaging more inviting. I feel like the colors really work together and that the typography is a classic feel to them.




I Want a K itten Starter K it Created for: Packaging Class Challenge: Creating a set of products

This was another project in packing class with Professor Rusch. He wanted us to come up with an idea for a series of products with the same identity. I had to create a logo and implement it on each product. My idea was based on new kitten (or cat) owners. My starter kit was meant to be an easy item to pick up at the store on your way home with your new feline friend. The kit includes items that your kitten would need for the first few days living with you. The box is meant to be a temporary bed. The blanket and toys are for the kitten to cuddle with in the box. There of course is food and treats as well as bowls. I hand wrote the logo and created some paw prints in Illustrator. The secondary typeface is Baskerville. I chose the basic colors of red, yellow, and blue as the color scheme.


PUC A rt Department Poster Created for: History of Graphic Design Class Challenge: Create a poster inspired by a graphic designer

This project was an interesting challenge. My inspiration was graphic designer John Maeda. I was really intrigued with his unique pieces, particularly the different Absolut Vodka ads he created. I appreciate how he uses texture to draw the eye and his occasional use of type to create the texture. Even with the use of texture, his designs are still very simple. I tried to embody those elements in the creation of the poster. I will say I struggled with the choice of color and trying not to create a pattern but instead texture.

St. Patrick’s Day Email Created for: St. Helena Olive Oil Co. Challenge: Create an email for a St. Patrick’s Day sale

When I think of St. Patrick’s Day, I think of the color green. I wanted to embody that in a subtle way. I chose products that made me think of green and photographed them in a way I hoped would highlight the green. It was a cloudy day, which gave a beautiful soft light to the images. The text over the images was a struggle but I think overall it was very successful. The simple layout allows for the images to speak for themselves.

For our 2012 olio nuovo release, the owner of the company wanted a new label design to distinguish the new oil from the previous year harvest. Her inspiration was a wine label that she had seen. It had much less information then what we needed to include. The challenge was to fit everything on the label in a balanced way. I used different typefaces to create organization and accessibility.

Napa Valley Bath Co. Logo Created for: Napa Valley Bath Co. Challenge: Create a new logo

Napa Valley Bath Co. was under the “blanket� of St. Helena Olive Oil Co. for many years. But in 2011, the owner of both companies decided to separate the two entities. She wanted Napa Valley Bath Co. to have its own unique logo. She already had a typeface in mind as well as a tag line. The typeface did not have a small caps version but I created a subtle small caps version for the company name. I wanted the tag line to stand on its own, so I made the type lower case. The addition of the lines was the idea of the owner. The lines nicely balance the whole logo.


NVB Core Lines Created for: Napa Valley Bath Co. Challenge: Create new labels for a new company

This was a big project and one of the first items to have been professionally printed by Napa Valley Bath Co. I designed all the items and discussed the overall design with the owner. We sat in the space that would be the first store and really looked at all the details. We wanted to make sure the feel was right for the store the owner had envisioned. I had to make sure all the ingredients were correct on the label. I chose our secondary typeface and was very involved with the choosing of the label paper stock. I went to a press check with these labels and made sure everything was printing correctly. There was a total of 82 labels.

A romatherapy Lines Created for: Napa Valley Bath Co. Challenge: Create an individual look for each line

This is one of my favorite projects I have ever worked on. These labels were the first designs I really felt free to use my creativity and really explore the feel of each line. Though there was some specific inspiration I based some of the designs off of, the majority of them were my ideas and uniquely executed for Napa Valley Bath Co. These labels were also professionally printed. There were 94 labels for this project.

NVB Business Card Created for: Napa Valley Bath Co. Challenge: Create a business card

After all the labeling and signage I had done for Napa Valley Bath Co., the business card seemed a minor feat. But I really wanted our card to be unique, clean, and easy to read. The owner of the company wanted the card to have a prayer or a thought on the back. Space was the key component for this business card. The whole business card uses the company’s primary typeface.

Shampoo & Conditioner L abel Created for: Napa Valley Bath Co. Challenge: Create a unique label for a new line

These labels were created for a new line of shampoo and conditioners for Napa Valley Bath Co. There are three scents: lavender & ylang ylang, rosemary, and lemongrass. I wanted to incorporate color in a subtle way and make a unique label that did seem part of the core line but still had the feel of our branding and store. I attempted to use the background text as a texture and an element of color.




H arvest Hounds Created for: HALL Wines Challenge: Create a logo/identity for yearly event

This was my first project as a Creative Intern for HALL Wines. Harvest Hounds is an awesome event that raises money for the pups in the Napa Valley. I was shown a promotional piece created the year before and was asked to explore a logo design for this year’s event. I went through many rounds working with the lead designer of the company. We explored more whimsical options- including a line drawing of a puppy I drew in Illustrator. But we decided that a type-based logo fit the company’s style and image.

H arvest Hounds Collateral Created for: HALL Wines Challenge: Create collateral pieces to promote event

After the logo was approved, my next project was to create a 5 x 7 promotional piece for the PR and hospitality departments to promote the Harvest Hounds event. It was important to communicate that our guests could bring their dogs to the winery, as well as, share all the fun things that were planned. After I created the promotional piece, I was asked to make a letter-sized piece for the HALL tasting room. I also created an outdoor sign for the day of the event. The outdoor sign followed the style of previous outdoor signs created for HALL winery events.


Taste of H all Created for: HALL Wines Challenge: Create recipe cards

Taste of Hall happens once a month at HALL. I was asked to create recipe cards for each event. I went through a couple rounds to establish this final look. Their are four recipes per event. Though it seems straight forward to layout each one, it can be challenging to fit all the information in the space. I have had to be creative with some of the recipes and have adapted the original design to accommodate each recipe accordingly.
