Indelicato (“Dr. I”) I to address the topic of suicide. The podcast aims to dispel myths and to provide accurate information about the topic of suicide, as well as to offer understanding and hope about this very critical issue. Dr. I is a Clinical Psychologist and Suicidologist who works with highrisk populations. She co-ordinates the Zero Suicide Grant Program at a hospital on the Navajo Reservation and runs community prevention programs on a Navajo radio station. Dr. I has created prevention efforts with Traditional Healers and she has developed curricula to teach medical professionals how to assess and treat patients expressing suicidal ideation and/or demonstrating high-risk behaviour.
Dr. I said, “Suicide is a staggering public health problem in our country. Despite the pervasive coverage of suicide in our news and on social media, this country’s narrative on suicide and suicide prevention is greatly limited in scope and often, does not convey the profound complexities associated with suicide.
