2, the brown is the fittest and most proportioned gelding today. He ties a longer, more filled out neck into a sloping shoulder. He blends a prominent wither into a shorter back, sleeker flank and longer more gently sloping croup. Finally, he stands down on straighter, tapering legs. Yes, 1 is deeper through the heart girth but the palomino is coarser made from head to tail. 1 is longer through his middle third, shorter down the croup and lacking muscle in his hip. Lastly he stands sickle hocked and cannot match the quality of 2.
HELPFUL HINT What do you do if you judge a breed at the contest that you didn’t cover in practice?! First of all, research on your own outside of practice, know which breeds are similar to each other and always rely on BMSQTT to get you through.

Official Placing Cuts
Placing: 2-3-1-4 Cuts: 5-2-1

2,3,1,4 is my preferred alignment of the Missouri Fox Trotter Geldings. I found an easy top followed by a logical second and close bottom pair. I started the class with the chestnut, 2, as he more completely combines the aspects of balance, muscling and structural correctness. 2 connects a longer, more well laid back shoulder with a shorter, stronger back and deeper, squarer hip. He breathes more air into a deeper heart girth with more spring to the rib. In addition, he draws a straighter line from hip to hock to ground and stands on a squarer, firmer knee up front. Finally, he is the most attractive about his head. Yes, 3 is longer and leaner about the neck, but, he is also longer and weaker down his back. Advancing to my middle pair, it is quality that places 3 over 1. The pinto possess a longer neck and lays a longer shoulder further back in combination with a more capacious barrel. Furthermore, 3 is broader in his loin and stands down on lower set knees and hocks with a cleaner, flatter column of bone. To his credit, 1 is squarer in his hip but he is coarser made overall, and lower in the back. Settling on my final pair, it is balance that pins 1 over 4. 1 is more well laid back in his shoulder with a smoother blending neck attachment. The palomino is squarer on all four corners and more evenly bisects his forearm, knee and cannon with more slope to the pastern. I admit 4 is heavier muscled but he is plain about his head, more upright in his shoulder and possess a shorter, steeper croup while standing under. Overall, the black lacks the smooth blending profile and balance to place higher today. Thank you.
