I have been hugely proud watching this event grow in stature and prominence since the inaugural running in 2020, andthisyearwewelcomerunnersfrom 15 countries to compete over the most valuabletwodaysinthesport.

We are proud to host such a diverse meeting on the dirt and turf, featuring topclassPurebredArabiancontests,anInternationalJockeysChallenge,arace for Part II and Part III nations, a showcase of the best local horses and our internationalracesonSaturday,highlightedbytheUS$20mSaudiCup.

One of the best kept secrets in European racing, 30-year-old Bauyrzhan MurzabayevfromKazakhstanhasbeendominatingtheGermanracingsceneof late.MurzabayevhaswontheGermanJockey’sChampionshipforthelastfour years in a row, and in 2021 recorded over 100 wins, nearly double that of the second-placedjockey.InadditiontodominatingtheGermanscene,wherehewon theGermanDerby,LegerandGrosserAllianz-PreisvonBayernthisyear,hehas alsoenjoyedoverseassuccessintheGrade1HopefulStakesinJapaninDecember.

A four-time Hong Kong Champion Jockey, Joao“TheMagicMan”Moreiraisoneofthe world’s most accomplished jockeys. Moreira is a three-time winner of the Hong Kong CupandwontheDubaiTurfin2017.Healso setanumberofrecordsinHongKong,most famouslywhenrecordingamonumentaleight winners on a single card at Sha Tin in 2017. With his retirement confirmed this year, the SaudiCupweekendwillmarkMoreira’sfirst, andlast,ridesinSaudiArabia.

Athree-timeGrade1winner,thisyear’srenewalwillmarkChantalSutherland’s first-timeridinginSaudiArabia.Beginningherracingcareerinherhomenation of Canada, she relocated to the USA in 2007, becoming a regular feature at SantaAnita,winningtheprestigiousHollywoodGoldCuptherein2012.Ahugely successfuljockeythroughouttheUSAandCanada,Chantalbecameonlythethird femaleCanadianjockeytopassthe1,000winsmarkin2017,andshewillbelooking tocontinueaddingtoheralreadyimpressiveresumehere.

OneofthemostpopularjockeysinFrance,DelphineSantiagohasbeencrowned leadingfemalejockeyinFrancetentimesinhercareer.Sheisarecord10-time female champion jockey in France, and with plenty of experience of racing overseasandover600winstohernameshehasafantasticchanceofbringingthe InternationalJockeysChallengehome.

OneoftheleadingstarsinNewZealand,SamSpratthashadabitofatorridtime with injuries overthe lastsix months.Apairof ankle injuries curtailed a strong seasonfortheexperiencedjockeywhoisedgingclosertothatmuchcoveted1,000 winsmark.Whileshehasriddenabroadbefore,thiswillbeherfirsttimemaking thetriptoRiyadh.“TheycalledmethreeorfourmonthsagoandaskedmeifI wantedtogoandIjumpedattheopportunity.”,Sprattcommented.With18Group 1winnersunderherbelt,Sprattisaforcetobereckonedwithonthetrack.

Saez should be no stranger to fans of racinginSaudiArabia.ThePanama-born jockey rode at the inaugural Saudi Cup meeting in 2020 and finished second in lastyear’srenewalofthe1351TurfSprint aboard Casa Creed. The partnership is renewed this year and will be looking to go one better tomorrow. Saez said “I’m havingagoodyearso farandamreally looking forward to the Saudi trip. The InternationalJockeysChallengelookslike agreatgroupofjockeys.”Withover2,600 winstohisname,Saezlookstobeoneof theleadingcontendersforthetitle.

A man who needs no introduction, Dettori will be making a farewell appearance in SaudiArabia,inwhatwillalsobehislastas heannouncedplanstoretirethisyear.Ahuge personality,thelegendaryjockeyhasridden more than 3,000 winners throughout his careerandhasenjoyedvictoriesinsomeof themostfamousracesintheworld.Hismost notablefeatcamein1996,whenherodethe winnerofallsevenracesonacardatAscot in what was dubbed “Frankie’s magnificent seven”. Forall his plaudits, the International Jockeys Challenge marks one prize that Dettori has yetto claim, and he would love toaddittohisextensivecollectioninhisfinal attempt.
