Welcome to King Khalid Racecourse for the 26th meeting of the Ta’if racing season. Today’s card consists of nine races, including a valuable JCSA Award for the finale. Our first race is a locally-bred horses’ maiden over 1200m. Stepping down in trip after finishing an impressive second place on her debut over 1400m is Mantooqat Aljeed. In the hands of Wigberto Ramos, together with the benefit of a fillies’ weight allowance and a tongue strap, she could go one place better from stall three and could be one to watch as her career goes on.Race two is a locally-bred horses’ handicap in the Apprentice Jockeys’ Hands and Heels series, again over 1200m. Based on ratings, the field is very competitive, but the older and more experienced may have the advantage when combined with the comparatively inexperienced riders. Seven-year-old mare Tarrahah won on her reappearance this season over this distance, so could be a winner for rider Mohammed Alrsheed. The third race is a maiden for locally-bred horses over 1400m. Bint Bidawiyah has not disgraced herself by any means in her three starts to date, finishing a respectable fifth over this distance last time, and could now put her experience to use and improve to win under Nawaf Alanazi. Race four, again over 1400m, is a locally-bred fillies’ maiden. Stepping back up in trip from 1200m, which proved to be too sharp for her, is Strong Message, who stands a good chance of winning from a comfortable draw in stall two. Esmahely Yelgharam also has claims. An Arabian fillies’ maiden follows, this time over 1600m. A British-bred daughter of General, Mawaazeen has proved to be very versatile in KSA, providing consistent results and placing in races between 1200m and 2000m in distance. An inside draw could be what she needs to win now, and the application of a tongue strap and cheekpieces will help her chances. A second Arabian fillies’ maiden is next, again over 1600m. Stepping up in trip after a very promising debut over 1400m for second place is Sharfa Alhezam, whose trainer Mohammed Khalaf will be hoping the extra distance can help her come home in front. Also second last time out, Shiehana Al Raila could be a danger to her. The seventh race is a 2000m maiden. Recently relocated jockey Pat Cosgrave rides Almotayab, who ran well for fourth place over this trip last time out. He should now be able to improve for a place, but will have a difficult task to get in front of Almetn, who has the benefit of the innermost draw and wears blinkers this time. The penultimate race is for horses who have won between one and three races and is over 2000m. A three-time winner in Ireland for Jessica Harrington, Pepperoni Pete could have a chance from stall one, but will likely struggle to beat distance winner Al Walii, who runs under Luis Morales here. Our final race of the day is the valuable JCSA Award, worth SAR130,000 and over 1600m. A winner for John Gosden in the UK, George Villiers looks to be a likely winner under Pat Cosgrave. The gelding by Dubawi wears blinkers and tongue strap this time, and makes his KSA debut having placed in the UAE earlier this year. All eyes will be upon him today. Recent winner Tahbeet may be the one he has to beat.
