Margie Engle
Born: March 31, 1958 Residence: Wellington, Fla. Gutsy and determined are just a couple of the adjectives regularly used to describe one of the United States’ most successful show jumping riders of all time. Engle has over 200 Grand Prix wins under her belt, has been named AGA Rider of the Year 10 times, has been on more than 20 winning Nations Cup teams, and was the 1991 AHSA Equestrian of the Year. In 1992, Engle was named the Rolex/National Grand Prix League Rider of the Year, a feat she repeated in 1993. In 1999, Engle rode Hidden Creek’s Alvaretto to the Team Silver medal at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, she was the highest-placed woman and the highest-placed U.S. rider in the individual competition, riding Hidden Creek’s Perin to a 10th-place tie.
Engle suffered a broken hip when a horse fell on her in 2004. Just three months later, riding her Olympic mount Hidden Creek’s Perin, Engle beat a field of 26 entries, which included eight Olympians, to win the Cosequin Invitational Grand Prix at the Cosequin U.S. Grand Prix League Invitational Finals in Culpeper, Va. She came back with a vengeance to successfully compete in 2005, and in 2006 she led the World Cup standings all year and was a part of the U.S. Silver medal team at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games aboard Hidden Creek’s Quervo Gold. In 2007, Margie and Hidden Creek’s Quervo Gold won the RV Sales of Broward Grand Prix at HITS Saugerties. In addition, she won two Grand Prix classes at the Traders’ Point Horse Show in Indianapolis with Hidden Creek’s Calippo 12 and Hidden Creek’s Wapino. The Hampton Classic brought more Grand Prix success with Hidden Creek’s Perin. In 2010, Engle and Indigo jumped to top placings at competitions throughout the United States. In April, they won the Grand Prix of Tampa which served as an FEI World Cup Qualifier. They then traveled to New York in the summer and topped the field in the Hermès Grand Prix in Lake Placid and the HITS-on-the-Hudson V Grand Prix. The pair

Jumping – Senior Team finished its strong 2010 season by winning the World Cup Qualifier of Syracuse. Engle and Indigo placed third in the Fidelity Investments Grand Prix to kick off their 2011 campaign. In March of 2011, Engle and Indigo were part of the winning U.S. team at the FEI Nations Cup CSIO4* presented by G&C Farm. In October, they won the Grand Prix de Penn National. Engle had a strong start to the 2012 season jumping at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival. She teamed up with Indigo to win the FEI World Cup Qualifier presented by Spy Coast Farm. Aboard Indigo, Engle was a co-recipient of the 2012 USEF National Show Jumping Championship title with the help of a clear round in the first trial. This win allowed Engle to claim her third national title, finish second in the USEF Selection Trials for the U.S. Show Jumping Team, and be named to the USEF Long List for the U.S. Show Jumping Team for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Engle’s success sustained in 2012 when she finished second with Pauly du Breuil in the FEI World Cup Qualifier CSI2* at the Tampa Bay Classic. At the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, a U.S. Show Jumping Observation Event, Engle took second-place honors with Indigo in the Hagyard Lexington Classic. Engle’s strong year continued at the Devon Horse Show Observation Events in Pennsylvania when she rode Indigo to a second-place finish in the Wells Fargo Grand Prix of Devon and fifth in the Idle Dice Open Jumper Stakes. The next weekend at HITS-on-the-Hudson, Royce and Engle earned a second-place finish in the SmartPak Grand Prix and third in the HITS Grant Prix. Engle began 2014 with a fifth-place finish in the $125,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Round VII with Royce. The pair came in sixth place in the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix. Engle and Royce improved to fourth place in the $200,000 American Invitational CSI3*. She then traveled to Europe, where she partnered with Royce for an 11th-place finish in the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen and helped the U.S. to a win in Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup competition at CSIO5* Hickstead, as well as in the Challenge Cup at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Jumping Final in Barcelona. Engle lives in Wellington, Fla., with her husband, Dr. Steve Engle, and is well-known for her infectious sense of humor.

King began her 2010 campaign by jumping at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida. In January, King and Skara Glen’s Davos were 10th in the $25,000 Equestrian Properties A-T Benefit Grand Prix. The combination traveled to Europe in the summer of 2010 to be part of the U.S. team at Meydan FEI Nations Cup events throughout the continent. As part of the all-female team that represented the U.S. at CSIO5* Rotterdam and CHIO Aachen, King helped in achieving first and third placings, respectively. Skara Glen’s Davos’ double-clear was essential in the U.S. clinching victory in Rotterdam. In 2011, King and Skara Glen’s Davos collected a sixth-place finish in the $500,000 FTI Consulting Finale Grand Prix in March. Born: December 20, 1969 Residence: Wellington, Fla. A grand prix competitor for almost two decades, the accomplished Candice King has been in the saddle since she was a toddler. After a brief stint in the Western divisions, King made a seamless transition to hunters and jumpers, finally making her debut on the American Grand Prix Association (AGA) circuit at the age of 19. To date, two of her most notable accomplishments include the distinction of being the top-placed U.S. rider at the 2001 FEI Show Jumping World Cup Final in Gothenburg, Sweden, and becoming the first U.S. rider since Mary Chapot’s 1968 victory to win the 2001 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the CSIO5* Hickstead in England. Other highlights from King’s career include a first-place finish in the six-bar competition at CSIO5* Rotterdam in 2004 and helping the U.S. to a second-place finish in FEI Nations Cup competition at the 2003 CSIO5* Falsterbo, where she also placed second in the Derby at Falsterbo. McLain Ward
Born: October 17, 1975 Residence: Brewster, N.Y. McLain Ward has an international Grand Prix prowess that only continues to increase with age. In 1990, Ward became the youngest rider ever to win both the USET Medal Finals and the USET Talent Derby at age 14. He turned that performance into a legacy, winning the pair of competitions from 1990-1992. Ward has already competed in more than 10 Rolex/FEI World Cup Finals and numerous FEI Nations Cup competitions in his storied career. In 2004, Ward made his Olympic Games debut with Sapphire in Athens, where the pair helped the U.S. to a Team Gold medal. Two years later, they were members of the Silver medal-winning team at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. The road to the 2008 Olympic Games, along with Ward and Sapphire’s second consecutive Team Gold medal, quickly gained momentum. The pair was a valuable part
of the winning U.S. team at the $75,000 FEI Nations Cup presented by CN at the Winter Equestrian Festival in March, and just one month later, won the $200,000 Budweiser Invitational in Tampa in a deluge of rain and wind. In 2009, the two-time Olympic Gold medalists won at nearly every turn. Ward and Sapphire prepared diligently for the 2009 Rolex/FEI World Cup Final all winter and were rewarded with a second-place finish for their efforts. The pair took home top honors in the $1 Million CN International at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament, one of the most prestigious classes in the world. They also won the Devon Grand Prix for the second time in 2009. For a second straight year, Ward and Sapphire won the $500,000 FTI Consulting Finale Grand Prix at the end of March of 2010. This came just two weeks after they secured a second-place finish in the $200,000 WEF FEI World Cup Qualifier. During the summer of 2010, Ward proved to be a force in Europe, jumping to many successful finishes all over the continent. With Sapphire, Ward won the coveted classes of the La Baule Grand Prix and the Rome Grand Prix. He finished off his summer in Europe by winning the prestigious Dublin Grand Prix with Antares F.
