EQ Out & About

November 2017

We’re on fire! As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, I think it’s safe to say that we are now well and truly into autumn. I hope everyone had an enjoyable (if not spooky!) Halloween and got to swish a sparkler or two on bonfire night.

Partner & Head of Client Care

We’ve swapped our quarterly Taking Stock newsletter in favour of two new six-monthly newsletters: ‘EQ Out and About’ and ‘the Foundation’. The Foundation will keep you updated on our recent charity work and efforts to improve the local community. EQ Out and About on the other hand, will focus on what the team has been up to, where we’ve been and any updates or changes going on at EQ. This quarter has been packed full of activity. The team has been hard at work in preparation for the imminent launch of our new funds. Hopefully you managed to attend one of our fund briefings and are feeling as confident as we are about the upcoming changes.

Our team has grown significantly this quarter as we welcomed eight new starters across our client manager, marketing and accounts departments. Hopefully they are settling in well; I have no doubt they’ll be valuable additions to Equilibrium. We have also seen the 12th edition of our half yearly investment magazine, Equinox, go to print, which you should receive in the very near future. In the wider world, we can see uncertainty in markets and in global politics as Brexit negotiations continue and tensions between the US and North Korea rise. Among all the chaos, you can always rely on Equilibrium to work towards ensuring your future financial confidence. I look forward to seeing you all soon at our Christmas lunches next month and in the meantime, I hope you enjoy our first edition of EQ Out and About. As always, I welcome all comments and feedback so please feel free to drop me a line at debbie.jukes@eqllp.co.uk.

Libby’s big aeroplane adventure A teacher training day was held in Chester on 19th September to introduce our financial literacy workbook that aims to educate children on money management and basic financial principles. The day was a huge success and the book is now being piloted in six primary schools across Chester and North Wales. Fun and Games! 1. Can you spot the odd one out?

Anglesey track day On 15th September, we hit the road and travelled to the famous Anglesey Circuit. 46 guests joined us to give the track a spin.

Social in the city We hosted our first Social in the City event for professional services firms at Rosso restaurant and bar on October 12th. Over 100 guests attended and some were even lucky enough to win prizes in our business card draw, including a luxury two-night holiday and two £250 gift vouchers for Flannels and Harvey Nichols.

Dementia Friends The EQ team had a session with Dementia Friends on 6th October. The charity aims to improve people’s knowledge about the disease and educate people on how to treat those living with dementia. Many thanks to Elaine Roche from JMW for giving the talk. EQ Out & About November 2017

End of year celebrations The EQ team marked the end of another successful company year in September, marking another successful year for the company. Employees shot off to enjoy a day of clay pigeon shooting at Catton Hall before a team briefing of the year’s events.

A coffee with an Equilibrium client, Caroline Cordery What attracted you to Equilibrium?

What are you currently reading?

A post card advertising a seminar landed on my door mat and I decided to attend. I was very impressed with their knowledge, professionalism and their friendliness. Also, the glowing testimonials from clients. The rest is history.

Arthur: The dog that crossed a jungle to get a home.

What are your hobbies and interests?

If you could only listen to one song ever again, what song would you choose and why?

My Cats (Mavri & Lucy) and the wildlife in my garden: foxes and badgers. Water skiing – which I do regularly at Sale Water Park and in Cyprus, where I originally learned to water ski and where I regularly return for holidays. Manchester City – same as my advisor, Jason!

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be? Nelson Mandela – what a man.

What’s the best programme you’ve seen on TV recently? A programme about wild wolves in Yellowstone Park - it was on Nat Geo Wild and I saw the whole of it on holiday in Cyprus. It was so good that it kept me in my hotel room, rather than out in the sun in mid-afternoon!

A truly remarkable story… and with a very happy ending.

Yellow Bird: I first heard it when my husband and I holidayed in Barbados. We weren’t married then, but when we did marry it was one of the songs played at our wedding and always brings back very happy memories.

Where is your favourite place on Earth? South Eastern Cyprus. My husband and I spent many happy years in that part of the country, making very many friends. Going back always feels like going home, even though we never bought property.

If you could make one rule that everyone had to follow, what rule would you make? Be honest in all you do and say.

What are you most looking forward to in 2018? Improving my water skiing, City winning the Premiership and watching the world cup.

Client testimonials Don’t worry, we might have been out and about but we’re still delivering the same outstanding, personalised service that we always have. Take a look below to read just some of the positive comments we’ve received over the last few months. “Good clarity of explanations about the strategies used to attain a constant growth of investments with low risk. Help in understanding the tax efficient methods of passing money to our immediate family. Ability to see financial projections on a large screen during the meeting. Open and clear presentation of fees and also having all valuations net of fees.” D. Luke

“I have confidence in the ability of my adviser to suggest the best way to invest my money. He is always willing and able to answer my questions.” O. Connor

“We have been clients for many years. In this time Equilibrium have grown tremendously but have not become impersonal. They know us as individuals and continue to give a very personal service, being always approachable and friendly with clear, understandable advice.” C. Louie
