Taking Stock Newsletter January 2014
Welcome to first edition of Taking Stock for 2014. I hope all of you enjoyed the festive season and, on behalf of all of the team here at Equilibrium, I would like to wish our clients and contacts a very happy, healthy and prosperous year ahead. Meanwhile, taking a quick look back on the last quarter of 2013, a huge thank you to all of you who attended our Christmas parties and helped support the Cash for Kids appeal. Your generosity meant that hundreds of less fortunate children received a Xmas gift – further details follow later in the newsletter. The last few months also saw the return of a former employee, Cleo Fisher, who we are delighted to welcome back into the fold now that she has relocated back to the area. The growing team means that we are rapidly running out of space so don’t be surprised by the updated reception area when you visit the office. The reshuffle has allowed us to incorporate a few extra desks for our hard-working troops!

The new year brings with it another new look and we hope you will approve as the office comes in for some further redecoration during the next few weeks.

As always, I hope you enjoy this issue of Taking Stock and learning a little bit about the team. If you have any comments, feedback or events that you would like including in future editions, then please do not hesitate to drop me a line at debbie@eqllp.co.uk.
Kind regards

Exam Passes
Wedding Bells
The Equilibrium team continue to demonstrate their commitment to personal development and expanding their knowledge after completing another round of financial services examinations.
Lucy & Darren
Congratulations to Cleo and Paul on achieving Chartered Financial Planner status and to Lucas on attaining his Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Jason and Matt also successfully passed examinations taking them both a step closer to reaching Chartered and Diploma status respectively.
Wedding bells are once again ringing at Equilibrium. Senior Client Manager Lucy Woolrich has announced her engagement to Darren, her partner of seven years. Darren got down on one knee following a romantic candlelit dinner on the beach of Boracay, Philippines. The pair plan to jet off for a destination wedding at some point in 2015.
Well done to everyone and keep up the hard work!!
Fantasy Investment League 2014
Investment Manager & Partner, Mike Deverell has kicked off the 2nd year of our ‘Fantasy Investment League’ at the Alderley Edge School for Girls. The competition allows 27 economics pupils the chance to invest £300 each in a selection of funds. The student that sees the highest gains will be rewarded with an IPad and £250 to their house charity. The winner will be announced after the Easter holidays.
Barney & Sarah As you may remember, Client Manager Barney Kilroy seized the opportunity whilst on holiday on the Great Ocean Road in Australia to propose to his partner Sarah. The happy couple opted for a Christmas wedding, and were married at the Lowry Hotel on Monday 30 December. We wish both couples all the best in their lives together.

Cash for Kids Toy Drive Equilibrium is keen to continue helping those less fortunate than ourselves and this year we decided to team up with Key 103 Radio’s Mission Christmas Cash for Kids appeal. We would like to thank you for all of your contributions, which included thoughtfully selected gifts, gift cards and generous cash donations. We are pleased to announce that we raised a huge £3,340 which we used to purchase a great range of presents for those children who may have otherwise received nothing on Christmas morning. As a result of the great generosity shown by Equilibrium clients and staff members, we were invited down to ‘Mission Christmas HQ’ where COO Gaynor Rigby & Marketing Assistant Peter Chiodo were interviewed live on Key 103.

Baby Boom Toby’s Lucy On 16th October, Senior Client Manager Toby Ellington and his wife Laura introduced their young daughter Kathryn to her new baby sister Lucy. We are happy to announce that 7lb 11oz Lucy is thriving, with an enviable head of hair!
Mike Deverell’s Macclesfield Half Marathon Following his successful completion of the ‘We Love Manchester 10k’, Mike stepped up his game with a further challenge by completing his first half marathon on 29 September! For those of you who are familiar with the Macclesfield half marathon, you will know it is a rather hilly course. This meant that Mike not only had to tackle the 13 mile course, he encountered over 1,000ft of hill climbing. The hard work paid off as Mike raised £300 for UNICEF which was doubled to £600 by Equilibrium.
Adrian’s Marrakech Marathon Client Manager Adrian Edwards had never attempted a race longer than 10km at the Great Manchester Run in June 2013. However, on January 25th, Adrian will be trading the cold, damp roads of Timperley for the arid conditions of the North African city of Marrakech. With the help of the Equilibrium Foundation, Adrian is striving to complete the 26.2 mile course in support of Cancer Research UK. If you wish to give Adrian a boost in his final training sessions, please donate to his Virgin Money Giving page - http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/AdrianEdwardsMarathon
Claire’s Sahara Desert Trek Pending new arrivals … After tying the knot in May 2013, Client Manager Paul Farrugia & his wife Catherine are pleased to announce that they will become first time parents this spring. We would like to congratulate the couple and are looking forward to meeting the new addition to the Equilibrium family. We are also delighted to announce that Andy Baker, Financial Planner, and his wife Lucy are expecting their second baby in April.
Equilibrium’s fundraising activities continue in Africa on 4 October 2014. Client Manager Claire Hayward will be trekking for 6 days across the sandy and rocky terrain of the Sahara Desert. Claire will be walking for up to 8 hours a day in 35°c in support of St Luke’s Hospice, a cause close to her heart. St Luke’s Hospice needs £3m each year in order to support the areas around Corringham & Billericay in Essex with inpatient, day hospice and ‘hospice at home’ services. With no guaranteed income, Claire has joined St Luke’s fight to provide a haven for cancer suffers and their families by aiming to raise £2,000 by October 2014. Claire has planned a number of fundraising activities in the build up to the event including a bake sale, a sponsored pizza at a local restaurant and a quiz night. We look forward to keeping you up to date with all of Claire’s success. If you wish to donate to support Claire in her quest, you can do so at www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/ClaireSaharaTrek Remember that the Equilibrium Foundation is keen to support causes with which our clients and staff have a personal affiliation. So, if you have a charity close to your heart and want the opportunity to double the amount that you can raise, please get in touch!

60 Seconds with... Cleo Fisher Experience to date at Equilibrium… Really good! Everyone’s been so great in welcoming me back. What have you most enjoyed about returning to Equilibrium? The client meetings and seeing some familiar faces! Tell us a bit about your background: I’ve had five years in the financial planning industry and have just become chartered. I’ve been working for a Wealth Management company in the south for the last few years and whilst I’m very pleased to be back with Equilibrium, I feel it provided me with some invaluable experience. What would you be if you weren’t a Client Manager? After Uni I looked into being a pilot! I applied for a sponsorship and passed the maths and physics exams but failed on the hand/eye coordination tests. So if I had just played more video games growing up . . ! And finally, tell us something we don’t know about you! When I was 15, I was nationally ranked in Table Tennis (very geekie)!
