Cold therapy application recommendations • Refrigerate the unfrozen gel pack for at least 6 hours before use. After application immediately put back in freezer and within 120 minutes ready to use again. • Massage gel evenly through pack and wipe any moisture or ice crystals off. • Use Equomed wrap to hold the gel pack in place or when using the compression boot: • Have all air out of the boot. Put the gel pack in the compression boot and fasten to the leg. Attach pump, open valve and pump 8-12 times. This gives you aprox. 35mm HG pressure. • Close valve and detach tube. • Before removal, deflate compression wrap. • It’s recommended to have extra cold packs to each set of compression boots for riders that have more then 1 horse.
HOT therapy application recommendations • Place gel pack in heating unit and cover completely with water. • Increase temperature to 71ºC and keep in this temperature for 20 min. • Test temperature of gel pack on your own arm. When warm sensation is tolerable for you apply on horse. • Massage gel evenly through pack. • Use Equomed wrap to hold the gel pack in place or when using the compression boot: • Have all air out of the boot. Put the gel pack in the compression boot and fasten to the leg. Attach pump, open valve and pump 8-12 times. This gives you 35mm HG pressure. • Close valve and detach tube. • Before removal, deflate compression wrap. Precautions: • Do not walk your horse with the hock tarsal compression boots on, this may cause injury. • Cold therapy application for more than 25 minutes may have detrimental effects, including neuronal and cellular damage. • Do not go over 12 pumps, this may cause injury. • Warm application is recommended by 40-45Cº. Above 45Cº can be harmful. Test temperature on your arm. • Always watch horses reaction, if uncomfortable let some air out. If the horse stays sensible to the pressure, you can use an Equomed elastic sport wrap to hold the gel pack in place.
