In 1920 he started his own business with his own company

he was registered on December 13th, 1920, as Haribo (Hans Riegel Bonn) in the Bonn commercial register.

Until the Second World War (1939), the number of employees grew to around 400 employees.

In 1945, Hans Riegel died at the age of 51 and was buried at Bonn South Cemetery.
THE DANCING BEAR In 1922 he invented the so-called "dancing bear" inspired by animals on the fairs. Two of the treats cost a penny. Later, the candy was marketed as a "teddy bear". But the Germans know him best as the "gold bear“.

FAMILY Johannes Peter Riegel was born as the first son of the couple Gertrud and Hans Riegel.
After the death of Hans Riegel in 1946 he took over , together with his brother Paul (1926-2009), the management of the company and expanded it to the confectionery group.
