To create a sustainable world through the power of business We invite you to explore the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise, the world-renowned dual-degree (MBA/MS) program that provides the practical tools, management approaches, and real world experience that business sustainability professionals need to respond to today’s complex global risks and opportunities.
What is the dual-degree (MBA/MS) program? Candidates receive both the MBA from the Michigan Ross School of Business and the MS from the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE). OVER 30 COURSES between the two schools have been recognized as “explicitly focusing on social sustainability and entrepreneurship, corporate responsibility and change management, and environmental and energy sustainability.” (Net Impact 2013, Bloomberg Business Week)
In addition, the Erb Seminar (available only to enrolled Erb students) is a deep-dive practicum, enhanced by invited sustainablity practitioners and Erb’s own sustainable Toolboxes that merge theory with business practices. This synthesis of coursework, combined with co-curricular learning opportunities, empowers Erb students to address complex issues, with a laser focus on business success through sustainability.

What We THINK Marianna Kerppola MBA/MS 2016
John Dooley MBA/MS 2016
The Erb Institute has helped me transition from a corporate career towards a career in innovation and entrepreneurship. Classes such as “Strategies for Sustainable Development” and “Systems Thinking” provided a robust toolkit for analyzing situations and developing solutions for complex problems. In 2014, I launched BetterHope, an online marketplace for clothing made with dignity, and today, I’m exploring solutions for innovation in academic drug discovery. Erb internship funding and the Erb peer coaching program have also been instrumental in my continued development as a leader and change agent.
My internship with Stem allowed me to contribute towards the commercialization of innovative battery storage solutions helping businesses better manage energy costs and drive electrical grid efficiencies. My knowledge of sustainability concepts and enhanced adoption of renewables was key to my ability to make immediate contributions. While my internship increased my understanding of behind-the-meter technologies, classes such as “Renewable Energy on the Grid” and “Energy Project Finance” provided the tools to deliver impactful recommendations on forming strategic partnerships for the smart grid.
