To create a sustainable world through the power of business We invite you to explore the Erb Institute for Sustainability in Business, the world-renowned dual-degree (MBA/MS) program that provides the practical tools, management approaches and real-world experience that businesssustainability professionals need to respond to today’s complex global risks and opportunities.
What is the dual-degree (MBA/MS) program? Candidates receive both the MBA from the Michigan Ross School of Business and the MS from the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS). OVER 30 COURSES between the two schools have been recognized as “explicitly focusing on social sustainability and entrepreneurship, corporate responsibility and change management, and environmental and energy sustainability.” (Net Impact 2013, Bloomberg Business Week)
In addition, the Erb Seminar (available only to enrolled Erb students) is a deep-dive practicum, enhanced by invited sustainablity practitioners and Erb’s own Sustainability Toolboxes that merge theory with business practices. This synthesis of coursework, combined with co-curricular learning opportunities, empowers Erb students to address complex issues, with a laser focus on business success through sustainability.

What We THINK Chris Monti MBA/MS 2018
Paula Luu MBA/MS 2019
The Erb Institute has been critical to my transition from the military to the corporate sector. Classes such as “Strategies for Sustainable Development” and “Systems Thinking” have enabled me to more clearly see how business professionals harness complex market forces to enact social change. With the goal of securing a full-time finance position within a Fortune 500 company, I realized I needed to develop my skills and my understanding of finance in corporate operations. The Erb Institute has given me an inside track. It has enabled interactions with alumni, instructors and peers who have guided me toward two incredible internship opportunities: one in impact investing and the other in corporate finance.
Before graduate school, I knew I wanted to find a way to pivot my career to focus on issues in the apparel industry’s supply chain. I was attracted to the Erb Institute because I could see immediately how the dual degree would prepare me academically and facilitate connections with key alumni around the world who work in the roles and at the companies that are on the cutting edge of supply-chain sustainability. Joining the Erb community has jump-started my career transition, and I feel it will allow me to make real contributions in the sustainable apparel industry right out of the gate. It has inspired me in ways I had not anticipated.
