the Arch gala dinner & auction 2023
Laughs for
Note of Thanks from the CEO
October holds significance for us at the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, as we commemorate Archbishop Tutu’s birthday on the 7th and Mrs Leah Tutu’s on the 14th. We are thrilled to infuse humour into this auction, paying tribute to Archbishop Tutu’s remarkable sense of humour, which allowed him to navigate even the most challenging conversations.
At the heart of our work at the Foundation is a goal to deepen societal healing from discrimination, oppression, and injustice. We believe that through keeping the example of the Arch and Mama Leah alive and using it to inspire courageous action into the future, we will do justice to the legacy of one of the world’s most prominent icons of moral courage.
We do this through the work of memory and storytelling; educational programmes reaching thousands of children each year; a leadership development programme putting courage, compassion, and ubuntu at the heart of societal leadership; and advocacy on issues of injustice and woundedness. This work can only take place through the support of generous donors around the world. Each commitment from a donor extends our ability to bring children through the exhibition; to bring young people into the leadership programme; and to extend the impact of the Arch’s example of to speak truth to power on issues of injustice around the world.
Through participating in this auction, you are making a direct contribution to increasing the impact of the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, keeping the example of the Arch as a powerful beacon of courageous action for social justice alive and extending that impact into the future. Thank you for your generous support!
