AN URBAN MEETING NODE in ANKARA STUDENT WORK - 2014

AN URBAN MEETING NODE in ANKARA

A BIBLIOPOLE themed MEETING NODE in Ankara was instructud to be designed as a term project. At present tıme, bibliopoles are not so popular as they were ın the past. So a dilemma appears there, a building which carries features of being a meeting node and also invites the people to bibliopoles and the other functions as well. To fulfill these “SAYFA” is designed. With its folded like Kennedy street elevation seperates the building from the other straight storey buildings without its surroundings. The building is respectful to surrounding buildings in aspects of material choice and balanced dramatism of masses and its 20 meter cantilever.

ISOVER/IZOCAM STUDENT 15th STUDENT CONTEST - THIRD PRIZE

The location of competition is in Kazakhstan/ Astana. In this dry cold and dry hot climate it was not easy to design a sustainable architectural project. The main problem was that, Astana is too cold in winter and too hot in summer. A project which can be adaptable for both opposite climate can be achieved by adapting greenhouse and passive energy collector site planning to houses. Moreover, constructing social sustainability was another subject. To provide this, different types of plans for different ages of people was designed. And also by designing and placing the blocks in a way that to create social sustainability, which is providing different nodes and different perspectives to people.

Modula[R]esilience

Flexible spaces have great potential for environmental, economic and social sustainability. When flexible spaces are treated as modular units, even small changes can cause large social and environmental impact in the entire housing complex. By the help of a flexible single off-on mechanism, Modula[R]esilience tries to survey this potential by offering various dynamic public, quasi-public and private spaces according to wishes of every residents for different time periods as yearly, monthly or even daily and hourly. The project also integrates this potential with different energy cycles and needs according to winter-summer situation of whole complex by changing it physically. These features makes Modula[R]esilience a dynamically adaptive multi-comfort zone with its always physically changeable common and private spaces for every user profile and the way of utilizing energy cycles.
