Editor’s Letter
D
ear Esteem Readers,
Can you believe it’s January 2018? I can’t. “Where did the time go?” is the refrain I continue to hear from my friends and family who seem bewildered and disoriented by speed in which the time flew by. Every year I hear the same old jokes about “where’s my flying car or spaceship”. Don’t ask Elon Musk questions like that. He might say it’s in his garage being tested. Ok. I am going to say it. Here it goes, “ Wow! Where did the time go?” Here is another one, “Wow! What a year this has been?” It has been a crazy year from Politics, Technology, Race Riots, the threat of nuclear war and Sexual Harassment. OMG. What a year this has been. As crazy and unpredictable the year has been, nothing in this year measure up to the first day of the New Year. It is an event in and of itself. Celebrating the New Year or new years day and actually seeing a new year come to fruition is perhaps the most important and life changing

event that you can experience. Unlike the many holidays’ that celebrate Man, God and memorable events in our history, the first day of the New Year is all about you! You made it! Now you may have barely made it but you made it. You may have just slipped in but you made it. You may have been carried in but you made it. You have slept it in but you made it. You made it and you must give yourself credit because many did not. 2017 took them out. This is something that we simply cannot take for granted. Life can be hard and unforgiving. Life can be stressful, depressing and full of challenges that seem to never end for many. For many, it was simply too much to handle. They gave up literally and took themselves out. Some died from sickness and disease. Some died from car accidents and plane crashes. Some died from terrorist bombings and senseless violence. Some died from war. Some died from gunshot wounds, from police and criminals. Some died from drug abuse and alcohol. Some died

from old age and loneliness. I can go on and on and name many reasons why many will not see life in 2018. But you my friend are here. You survived 2017 and maybe thrived. You conquered instead of being conquered and now Your Power Is Now to live your best life ever. Thankfully 2018 is filled with people like you who understand the lessons learned in 2017, and are ready and empowered to apply that lesson to 2018. 2018 will demand your very best which does not come from will power and or mental toughness. Your very best life will come from being Christ centered, purpose driven and passionate about helping others do the same. It has nothing to do with your profession or trade. It has everything to do with why you are here in 2018 and others are not. It has everything to do with coming to terms with your purpose for the space you take up and the air you breath. You are more than eating and drinking and sleeping. You are more
www.thepinmagazine.com
than work or play. You are here. To be Christcentered is antithesis of self-centered, to be purpose driven is to provide outcomes that are aligned with your values, and to be passionate is to show excitement and love for what you do and value you bring to the lives of others. 2018 is your year to do all of that and more. It is your year to live your best life. So don’t waste it. 2019 may be a possibility but all we really have is now. Our Power Is Now to make a difference in the world. Happy New Year. You earned it!

“We appreciate your professionalism and integrity.” “From the moment we met to the close of escrow, you delivered exceptional service.” These are just two of the positive comments clients have expressed following representation by The Power Is Now agent Classye James in Santa Clara County.
Growing up in the heart of Silicon Valley gave Classye a unique perspective into the technology industry at a very young age. It also helped to drive her strong interest in the automation of systems to create ease at home, in school, or in the workplace. While she always fostered her love for technology, for a large part of her life, her main focus was on sports – specifically basketball. She played basketball competitively for 17 years and was a collegiate player at both Oregon State University and San Jose State University with the ultimate dream of becoming a professional basketball player.
CLASSYE
JAMES

Unfortunately, that dream ended due to a career-ending injury that changed her plans for the future. She was forced to retire from basketball at the age of 22, closing a ma jor chapter in her life. In December 2014, she found herself at a crossroads; she knew that she needed to develop a new plan for the next steps in her life. Equipped with a degree in Business Finance from San Jose State University, Classye leveraged her network to gain a job at Cisco

Systems, and shortly after she received her real estate license.
As a former athlete, one of her strongest attributes is her ability to collaborate with others in order to solve complex problems. She is currently enrolled at Santa Clara University, where she is working towards her MBA, and she is very excited for her new journey at The Power Is Now and the many successes to follow. Classye’s honesty and knowledge of the market coupled with a strong drive to assist her clients makes her a valuable asset when searching for a property. She is ready to go to work for you today.
Classye’s belief in trust and integrity, along with her commitment to clients throughout their home buying and selling experience, ensures her success. Understanding and fulfilling her clients’ needs is her top priority. Classye provides each client with the opportunity to make sound financial decisions based upon a customized marketing strategy focused on their specific expectations and the latest market trends.
In her limited spare time, she likes to coach kids in basketball, do yoga, and read. Traveling, health and fitness are her interests. Her motivation in life is inspiring others, achieving

the desired end result of a goal, learning new things, completing a difficult project, and overcoming challenges. In her career as a real estate agent, Classye has learned a few things, including how to adjust and keep moving, how to celebrate success and learn from loss, how to seize the moment and act on your goals, and how to know what you want to do and when/ how you will do it.

fter concluding studying for his masters in financial planning, Leon Townsend reached out into the world of financial services during a very rough time in the industry. After a tough go as a financial advisor and planner, he ventured into education for almost 2.5 years before being laid off for unforeseen budget issues. Leon then stumbled upon Enterprise RentA-Car, which is where he actually got the influence for his start in real estate.
In 2015, Leon spent long nights and days studying and prepping for his exam. He finally completed the requirements and passed his exam in September of 2015. Fast forward to the beginning of 2016, and he had a large amount of concern about his position and the lack of potential growth. In June of 2016, Leon had a revelation: If he wanted to create his own path in this world, he was going to have to take some bold risks and step out of his comfort zone.
67
Leon decided that day that he was going to leave Enterprise Rent-A-Car and focus on real estate full-time. He joined the West San Gabriel Valley Association of Realtors, which is where his real estate career started. In 2017, his first full year as a Realtor, he has made strides he could have never foreseen. Leon has become chair of the Young Professionals Network at his board for the upcoming year, become a certified Green Realtor, and also earned his notary Public license.
Understanding that each client’s goals and needs are different, he works to provide the most effective approach to real estate marketing and negotiation techniques in order to accomplish his clients’ unique desired results. Leon’s ability to successfully market his clients’ homes is only the starting point of his service differentiator. Leon’s business values and work ethic are grounded in honesty and trust on both professional and personal levels.
Leon’s extensive knowledge of the marketplace, marketing expertise, negotiating skills, and resourcefulness are essential elements of his representation of both buyers and sellers. Leon is trusted by his clients, listens carefully to understand their needs, and facilitates a smooth transaction for optimal results. Many of Leon’s clients use him for multiple real estate transactions and frequently refer him to their friends and colleagues. Leon has also implemented a team approach in order to become even more responsive to multiple clients’ needs. Most importantly, his sparkle, energy, and determination make him a pleasure to work with.

In his spare time, Leon is an avid reader and sports lover. He is a huge fan of the Lakers, Raiders, Dodgers, and the USC Trojans. Leon’s interests outside of real estate include education, since he is a professor, and sports. Leon’s family and parents are his true motivation in life.
A new lesson that he learned in 2017 is to never stop networking. No matter where he is, he wants to be aware of who he is around. To that end, he works hard to ensure that his presence in the chamber of commerce and real estate board is both memorable and visible.

GROWING TRENDS
IN AT-HOME BUSINESSES A
t-home businesses are now more popular than ever before. This is because they allow one to work without a fixed schedule. They also reduce the cost of business operation. In addition, technology makes it easier to do business at home. Here, we look at certain trends in home businesses.
Home-based business ownership is growing Previously, stay-at-home moms were the primary demographic involved in home-based businesses. But that is quickly changing. Now, both men and women are starting homebased businesses to provide both goods and services. Most start-up businesses in the U.S. and all other ma jor economies are homebased. The tax deductions that at-home business entrepreneurs enjoy encourage many people to start doing business at home. This is a trend that is likely to continue for a long period of time.

Youth target market Most home-based businesses target the youth. There is a lot of potential for growth in such businesses. This is mainly due to the fact that social media marketing is very effective. Youth usually spend a lot of time on social media. A business opportunity that targets the youth is likely to achieve sales targets fast. Talented music stars targeting the youth have easily risen to fame and sold massive numbers of albums in a short time period. That is how the youth impact businesses. Any person who wishes to work at home should find ways to reach the youth. That is the secret to business success. Young people can easily network with peers to market your business and products.
Advanced technology Due to advanced technology, there are many business opportunities for home-based businesses. Billions of dollars change hands online on a daily basis. Such entrepreneurs make a lot of money doing online business from home. The internet plays a ma jor role

in online business. It contributes a lot to shaping the online markets and industry. Many at-home business entrepreneurs will need assistance in building websites. Search engine optimization is also another area that will provide opportunities for at-home businesses.
There is a change in the workplace as well due to internet availability. One does not require an office to work. Provided one has access to the internet, you can work from anywhere. Many people work from home, the office, or even the coffee shop. The fact is that the internet has played a ma jor role in influencing the current trend in at-home businesses.
Health and wellness focus Many business opportunities target the health and beauty of potential clients. Most entrepreneurs already know that this is an unexploited market niche. People are looking for ways and products that will make them look and feel good. The latest trend in home business is to supply such products. There are many online health and fitness coaches. Many people are also distributors of health and fitness products. Weight loss programs such as the paleo diet and beauty procedures such as Botox are very popular nowadays. Research shows that there are many opportunities for the growth of this type of home business. The prediction is that most business entrepreneurs will seek to tap into this market. Mainly they will advertise and trade online. Remember, working from home online reduces the cost of business operation. This ultimately leads to an increase in the profit margin.
that their impact on the environment is not detrimental, since consumers are very conscious of environmentally friendly products.
Environmental pollution through the use of fuel when commuting is also reduced when working at home. Other ma jor areas include solar installation, landscaping and cleaning services. The onset of online businesses has also led to a reduction of printing. Most information is stored in a soft copy format. This promotes the principles of green industry.
Change in purchasing habits Most consumers now buy some products online. This is a ma jor boost to at-home businesses. Home-based businesses do not often fail. This is mainly because the costs associated with such businesses are minimal. In addition, there are convenient ways to pay for such products bought online. Customers want to shop conveniently. When homebased businesses give customers convenient payment options such as credit cards and mobile wallets, they promote faster homebased business growth.

Home Ownership Home ownership brings stability to individuals and families who have never had a dwelling place that they could call their own. There is something special about owning real estate that is unlike anything else on earth you can own. Real Estate you own is not like cars that decay over time and you have to replace them. Real Estate you own is not like clothes that go out of style and you have to buy new ones. Real Estate you own is not like expensive vacations or experiences that only last a moment in time. Real Estate you own is not like an apartment where the landlord may increase the rent until it’s no longer affordable. Real Estate you own is not like staying at your parents house where you know can’t stay forever. Home ownership is the beginning of wealth that increases over time and becomes your estate & legacy Home ownership is the pride of a mother nurturer and the kitchen her domain Home ownership is the pride of a father provider and protector of his territory and family. Home ownership is the foundation of permanence and the place where life happens, birthdays celebrated, deaths mourned. Home ownership is the place you build memories that can never be taken from you. Memories etched in walls and concrete, experienced in rooms and floors, Memories living in trees and shrubs planted by your hand. Howe ownership is the manifestation of you - your style, your colors, your smell, your stuff, your junk, your memories, your yard and your spaces, your life. It’s the height markers on your first child’s bedroom wall. It’s the hearts drawn in the concrete slabs when you pour your patio floor It’s the birthday parties, and anniversaries in the living room and kitchen. It’s the back yard barbecue with friends, neighbors and family contentions it’s the high school and college graduation, and wedding receptions Its’ the family nights and block parties and the fellowship of family connections Home ownership It’s more than real estate. Land, brick and mortar, wood frame construction and chicken wire. It’s more than money saved, gifts recieved and grants obtained It’s more than the debt you incur to buy it. It’s more than the payments you make to own it. It’s more than the appreciation that comes with keeping it over time. It’s memories, it’s family, and it’s life that can happen in one place Until you say it’s time to move.
