Kojima was brought onto the project in September 2012 by Konami; the game was announced in August 2014 via P.T., short for Playable Teaser, a critically acclaimed demo that was released as a free download from the PlayStation Store. P.T. revealed the involvement of Del Toro, along with Norman Reedus as the voice and appearance of its protagonist.

As you can see, the Dog Tags on reedus’s Character appear to contain certain equations on them... These equations (supposedly being the Schwarzschild Radius and Dirac Equation) reference subjects as quantum mechanics & relativity, which are potentially hinting at black holes and alternate dimensions being involved in the plot behind death stranding.

Guillermo Del Toro on death stranding’s trailer... What a surprise! Right? Famed film director, screenwriter, producer and novelist, Del Toro is best known for his work in dark horror films.
Kojima’s fans might know him best from his involvement in P.T. (Silent Hills), which he “was” set to direct alongside Hideo Kojima. Following Norman Reedus’s return, Del Toro is yet another member of the P.T. Team who is working with Hideo Kojima, “again”... -After we’ve been told that Silent Hills had been cancelled.

Junji Ito was confirmed to be working with Kojima and Del Toro on Silent Hills (P.T) before its “unfortunate” cancellation. He is one of the most distinctive and twisted manga artists in Japan, with a ton of warped horror series like Gyo, which sees Okinawa invaded by mutant killer fish with metal legs as a holdover from World War II research, or Uzumaki, in which a town is cursed by an obsession with spirals.

His graphic style isn’t really something that’s been seen in major video games, but in hindsight, what little we saw of Silent Hills and its short-lived concept demo P.T. was characteristically right in line.
A particular chapter in another manga by junji ito, -Uzumaki (spiral), was called: “The Umbilical Cord�.
His unique style of horror gave Silent Hills Playable Teaser the weirdness it needed and hyped up the fans even more.
