Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest church in Lexington, KY. The church has been acquiring property to accommodate it’s expansion. The church has asked for a comprehensive plan for future growth and current needs. This design gives them everything they needed with more parking then required, and maximum green space. The green space provides an amphitheater for their choir and other events.

This was one of the first designs, with the least change to the property.

This plan view is concentrating on the pedestrian green way and the rooftop gardens. The playground is only accessaible to the church and it’s members. The northern rooftop it accessible to the apartment residents, coffee shop customers, and the public. Section B is found of the previous page.

The area shown above is a plan view of the amphitheater, facing the green wall of a parking structure for the church congregation durring services. The parking structure will be subcontracted for city parking on all other times because of its proximity to downtown.

Ashland Plaza is a comprehensive design that was completed in collaboration with other LA’s. The goal was to make a neighborhood center in a space that was currently under utilized. Our main goal was sustainable infrastructure with a village feel on the ground plane with small and larger spaces, to mimic English design. MARKERS | AUTOCADD | INDESIGN | PHOTOSHOP | SKETCHUP

The North Limestone (NoLi) project was a design geared toward revitalizing a part of Lexington that has been in a decline for many years. This area has had many identities over it’s life, this plan would like to take the area in a new direction. One that welcomes local stores, entrepreneurs, and night life to the area. The design would like to inclrease vegitation by over 75 percent, slow traffic, increase walkability, and bikeability.
AUTOCADD | INDESIGN | PHOTOSHOP | ILLUSTRATOR
The street transforms from vehical only, to temporary tables durring events. Finally, pedestrian only, with pavers, in-ground trees, perminate tables, planters, and signage. This street is already part of a Night Market, this would make it a destination.
A
The next pages show the phasing of the design over a span of time. Bryan Avenue is a street that is currently used as a cut-through to a larger street. Fast traffic makes this an inhospitable area for pedestrians on a normal basis. The street is closed down durring the warmer months in the evening for a Night Market.
17
These illustrations show the connections and accessibility of the farmers market. As a busy street, it is not welcoming to bikers or walkers. This will be changed with a median, new sidewalks, and shared bike lanes. In the final phase, a produce market will be ultimately constructed.
B
The perspective above is looking down the corridor that connects the farmers market to the Night Market area on Bryan Avenue. In addition, this illustrates the revitalization of this vacant building, to offices and road front market space. The sections to the right are illustrating Loudon Avenue, and the phasing of the design elements to the streetscape, and infrastructure.
19
The buildings facing the road are vacant. The plan will add new sidewalks and planted medians. Lastly, bump-outs will create water filltration bio-swales, and the additional space will allow for a bike lane. The new face to the street will encourage pedestrian congregation and throughfare.
C
Loudon Avenue is the busiest street, and the main focus in the plan. This currently four lanes with a median, there is currently only 10 percent of the total amount of sidewalks that are needed. There are many abandoned and vacant buildings along the roadway. This plan aims to convert the vacant spaces to viberant co-op buildings that wecome many different tenants. With help from local invested agencies, revitalizing this part of Lexington can make it flourish once more.

The Curren Retreat is for a family that has sent their daughter off to college, and is looking to invest in their home. Mr. and Mrs. Curren are looking to create useful outdoor space that complements the inside functions of their home. At the present the family has minimal planting around their home. The plan will give them low maintenance plant selections, patio and decking additions to the front and back of the home, and a fire pit for outdoor entertainment.

Private Work July 2014
The Beall residence was aquired through a business that needed a planting design. The design is to accommodate a young growing family with two children and another on the way. Earth berms were added for a visual separation of neighboring homes and play installations. The patio was extended for more outdoor entertainment space. The plantings were requested to create a separation of the patio and the yard so that Mr. and Mrs. Beall can enjoy their time outdoors and keep an eye on their children. The plants were selected to be child friendly and easily maintained.

The patron for this design was looking to improve their current planting to spruce up the curb appeal, because the home owner is motivated to rent the property. The above design was not exactly what was implemented because of lack of available plant material. The images on the right are immediately after the designer completed implementing the plant design. The designer will return to plant perennials the following spring.
